Drinking the Political Cool Aid

I can see by the long threads developing here that we, as a group, are falling into the same thing I see as a trap that the average schmo is falling into. We are sucked in by the show of politics. The debates get us all worked up. The comments, the withdrawal of one candidate from a debate, etc... Like moths to a flame. I hope that we aren't working from the same premise that the average person is - that there is some sort of solution, some sort of answer to our problems to be found in politics, the actions of politicians. It has become very clear to me that there are no solutions there, only problems. What really sealed the deal for me was some work I've done within the political machine. These people are barely human, honestly. They're just like mistletoe on a big oak tree - only there because there's a source for them to tap from. They don't give a shit about you or your family. Every "solution" comes in the form of a government program...

Just last night my son had a homework assignment where he wrote a letter to our rep in Congress, and had people sign the back to show support. I just let him write asking for more money for schools. The early brainwashing is so clear from where I stand. He's smart, though. I think he may get it someday.

I digress... I decided to force myself to watch the last two debates just, basically, as reconnaissance. I was scared to be reminded how similar the two parties are. Anyway...it's Friday, I'm tired and rambling. I'll shut up now. But, does anybody else see it?...this attraction to the political machine like it's a shiny, solution-producing entitiy?...
