Federal government invests $3.9 billion into 10-year plan for autonomous driving

So, I still do not understand why these idiots feel the need to waste 3.9 billion dollars they don't have to fund a 10 year research program into driverless cars. Isn't that what the private sector should do if it is worth anything? I would say 3.9 billion would be better spent fixing the water supply in Flint Michigan where they can't drink it because of lead content. Not that Flint shouldn't have taken care of their own crap, but if we are throwing money away, at least do a little bit of good...

    You want to know why?
Fedgov looters can't control people that drive. They CAN control machines that drive.
For your own safety you will no longer be trusted to drive on public roads. Travel will be restricted to only the people who follow instructions exactly, starting with restrictions on gun owners. For those who are allowed to travel, the traffic will be controlled to give priority to friends of government. All other serfs will sit and wait. Just the way it works now when there is a WTO meeting or an appearance by the president, but it will happen all the time to benefit the politically connected.
They will pretend that this is being done to protect you from terrorists. they just won't tell you that you are one they consider to be a terrorist.

No, I can't think they are even that weird, it may be that such a thing, if it ever comes true, presents several other possibilities: tracking movements of all, and the ability to shut down the system. Given industrys incredibly poor ability to protect systems from infiltration, I would also bet that any system is hacked within a year. Nope, I will drive myself, thanks. The waste of money is really obscene though, because this is a market issue, not government. Fixing a water system seems much more their area of responsibility, even if they don't want to. Also Flint has a large black population, don't Black Lives Matter? Seems they may be hypocrites?

        "Seems they may be hypocrites?"
Never was any doubt of that.
You think they are "responsible" for anything? This is the fedgov not your local water board. They have no fear of punishment, only fear losing some of their power to other looters and another looter climbing above them on the ladder of aristocracy (pull.)
Keep in mind the govt characters of Atlas Shrugged and you will better understand.

Apologies for misunderstanding your understanding, nick ;^) The disgusted minority is growing. I hope all the disgusted can learn rational thinking along the way and recognize the value of liberty and free markets.

No apologies needed freedom. :) I hope this adventure gets tied together to the 3.9 billion, ( I do know the root cause of their problem is total incompetence of the city of Flint in running it's water system, which is probably directly related to crony hiring practice), but if they are going to waste money they don't have, and we cannot throttle it, at least send it in some useful direction. Bottom line is neither is best, but that isn't going to happen with the current system of corruption.

Were'nt they just bragging about saving how much if they cut out Obama care? Don't they need that money to do ...little things...like pay the current bills and debt? Part II of the cycle of economic repression with another box check marked.
