Ethics of looting looters

j_IR1776wg and I started a side discussion as part of an earlier thread regarding the looting of looters, including Ragnar's exploits. I definitely have profited (and not felt the least bit guilty) about making money by converting animal and plant waste into biofuels and chemicals. Those deluded about global warming were some of my best customers. I did trade value for what they wanted, and was compensated in return. AR says that our transactions should be only with those trading value for value. Did what I do seem ethical when viewed from a Galtish viewpoint? I certainly felt no guilt about it, and actually took an ironic joy in it.

Sounds great to me. The critical factor was that it was a voluntary and mutually satisfied exchange. Your trading partner valued your product. You valued their exchange. Capitalism is awesome!

Perhaps in the currency that they pay with. I would rather be paid in Au for instance, but they do pay the agreed-upon price so I'm OK with it as long as their currency can be converted into something of worth. In AS, accumulations outside the Gulch could not be transferred in, for instance.

I thought so, too, but the confirmation is appreciated. What I was more concerned about is doing business with those who are not Gulch citizens.

Perfectly fine. In fact probably greatly moral, as you were trading something of extremely little value for a much greater one, while they were trading what they see as a small value for something they care deeply about.

    BAM! Capitalism.
