Ideally, the actor playing John Galt in Atlas Shrugged Part 3 will appear to have jumped right off of the pages of Atlas Shrugged. However, in our quest to find the perfect John Galt, some tough choices may have to be made. That's where you come in.

If you had to choose, which would you consider the number one priority in casting John Galt?

A. As long as the actor looks and acts like John Galt, I don't care what his personal beliefs are.
B. The actor needs to possess a deep understanding of, and passion for, Ayn Rand's ideas first and foremost.

An actor is paid to act; regardless of their personal beliefs/views. (If the actor is that strong against something, they probably won't want to be cast).
An audience pays to watch someone else's interpretation; it's really that simple.
If you're too afraid of not being handed your own mind and thoughts via actor(s); then you should stay home and not stress out on what wasn't correctly adapted by your interpretation.
    Haha....the questions are awesome!!
(James Franco and Nick Nolte are on my list!)

Toby Keith, good old Okie and counttry singer, is John Galt. Dont let this man slip away. You could also do worse than Dennis MIller, also.

I've never heard of half the people suggested. Guess I don't watch the idiot box or watch movies enough. Were he an actor, I'd suggest LtC Allen West, but since he's not, perhaps Chris Pine?

He has to be an actor who can play "the worker" that Eddie talks to AS WELL AS the force behind the disappearances.

B - first and foremost, at least able to convincingly act the part.
A - pee wee herman not , Charleston Heston or John Wayne yes... oh but they already have B in hand.
To get B, he may well be some unknown that cannot 'make it' in Hollywood because of his beliefs and ideals.

Ryan Gosling is a great choice. But is he a Hollywood kiss-ass? I don't know. It doesn't hurt to ask cuz then we'd know.

I should have asked snakebit.Jones to recall ANY scene where James Taggart was seen anywhere except in the back seat of a stretch limo?

James didn't have it in him to succeed on his own, and certainly didn't have the independent spirit to drive himself around...unlike all the characters that we admire.

The writers and/or director got it 100% right.

Dagny doesn't pick John over Fransisco and Hank because he's the right age, she picks him because of who he is, and what he does, and how. and it's not just Dagny. Galt has to be believable as the guy who convinces Fransisco to completely destroy the world his family built, and live a lie on top of it. "presence" doesn't even BEGIN to describe what he has.

Ask Mark Consuelos(Kelly Ripa's husband) cuz he is a best friend of Esai Morales and I have no idea what his politics are. He's someone Dagney could fall in love with.

I always keep in mind that dollars are essentially votes. Since they have presented their politics, thoughts, and philosophy of life so clearly and publicly, none of my money goes into their pockets.

If an actor keeps his opinions to himself and does his job, it's a lot easier to "vote" for him with my dollars.

    B
Of Course.....there has to be an actor out there that fits the part ...it would not be right to have this played and acted out even though actors can do so.....in this case it isn't right to the author to even think that could be a possibility

I absolutely agree. The right actor: in looks, in body style, in thought, in philosophy and in acting will, I truly hope, pursue the role, singlemindedly, until he gets it.
    N.B. list in random order
further note: spellcheck suggests "simplemindedly" instead of "singlemindedly". humph.

I would answer B. If he is too be really believable, he needs to understand and ideally subscribe too the ideas and principles of Ayn Rand.

not gorgeous enough - his face is kind of "sharp". I don't know of an actor, working or not, who could even show the pure physical perfection I have always seen in Galt.
Gotta say I do like where [from a fast Wikipedia read] he stands philosophically - he doesn't fling money at a bunch of causes, he picks his area and concentrates.
