Ideally, the actor playing John Galt in Atlas Shrugged Part 3 will appear to have jumped right off of the pages of Atlas Shrugged. However, in our quest to find the perfect John Galt, some tough choices may have to be made. That's where you come in.

If you had to choose, which would you consider the number one priority in casting John Galt?

A. As long as the actor looks and acts like John Galt, I don't care what his personal beliefs are.
B. The actor needs to possess a deep understanding of, and passion for, Ayn Rand's ideas first and foremost.

A good actor can actually use methods/strategies to reset their mind to "believe" what they are saying. The key is being able to convince others that you believe and communicate the reasons that you believe. The choice should be someone who can convincingly communicate our beliefs. That may only be possible coming from someone who honestly does believe.

    B. Needs to feel the part. Can't be just another pretty face. A Christian Bales type crossed with Vincent D'Onofrio...great intensity actors.

I thought of Stoltz as well when I first read it, but after playing Brandon, no thanks. :)

You need someone that has a lean, robust, rugged individualist look - self-cnident without being smug or conceited - someone who looks like they would be at home in a formal setting or living off the grid. I would prefer someone who embraces the ideals of John Galt but that may seriously narrow the field. I think Jim Caveziel could pull it off, and Timothy Olyphant seems a decent choice, too. Maybe even Guy Pearce. We shouldn't go for "star power" because it will take away from the movie's message. Oh yeah, I think you've got to have someone that is mid-40's. Someone that that could easily be seen as "the total package" that Dagny could fall for over Francisco and Hank.

No Brad Pitt, no Johnny Depp - don't we need someone who really is going to walk that walk? There won't be many. While I don't know his politics, John Corbett comes to mind

Of A or B choices, obviously B, but make it clear that this man, while insanely intelligent (and wanting to keep what's rightfully his), he also has to be PERSONABLE (albeit to those who understand the concept of his morality) - I mean, oftentimes you see a character that seems harsh because they seem so sternly rigid in their beliefs, I want it to be seen that he actually is very comfortable and personable with people.

A great, well-trained, good-looking actor. a la Richard Armitage, James McAvoy, Nathan Fillion, etc.

Short of picking Depp, I would suggest a man of hawkish features with a rational face. He must be almost too thin. He must appear be a man who is so driven by reason as to be unconcerned with personal bodily comforts. I know there are a lot of biases, but if you are to be true to the style, you must select such a man. he should be more mind than muscle--but well toned--and thin. Look at old pictures of construction workers from the '30's to see the look.

Ideally, John Galt should be an actor who can convey depth, compassion and intellectual honesty - someone who would make the audience REALLY think. An "everyman" quality people could also identify with. Sound familiar? Like Tom Hanks, perhaps? Matt Damon? John
Voight is a good suggestion, too. Jim Caviezel is another good choice.

Jim Caviezel. Watch his demeanor in his role on the "Person of Interest" television series. He is very much like John Galt -- intelligent and strong. He is also very good-looking and is the kind of actor who would read "Atlas Shrugged" without being told to do so.

Love him or hate him, Johnny Depp would play the role and look the part very well. Although, that's not in the budget I'd guess.

He should have similar traits to Howard Roark in The Fountainhead. He should be either a Libertarian or Conservative. (No liberals need apply for this position). I agree- boycott all Liberal Actors

B--This person will most probably be doing media interviews promoting the film. I would hate to see an actor say "Ya I played the role, but I don't believe any part of it." Many of the part 1 actors should also return.
