Ideally, the actor playing John Galt in Atlas Shrugged Part 3 will appear to have jumped right off of the pages of Atlas Shrugged. However, in our quest to find the perfect John Galt, some tough choices may have to be made. That's where you come in.

If you had to choose, which would you consider the number one priority in casting John Galt?

A. As long as the actor looks and acts like John Galt, I don't care what his personal beliefs are.
B. The actor needs to possess a deep understanding of, and passion for, Ayn Rand's ideas first and foremost.

Gerard Depardieu ==>> He IS John Galt, because he left France, to cancel high tax pays.

Patrick Stewart - because he is a man of reason, wisdom and justice.

To me, how Galt looks isn't as important as how he sounds--especially if The Speech is going to take up more than 5 minutes. I'd like him to have a rich voice, along the lines of James Earl Jones or John Rhys-Davies. Obviously neither of those particular actors would be right for the part, but surely there's an unknown out there who has the chops. If he turns out to be black (they seem more likely to have that sort of voice)--hey, why not?

I was going to totally disagree with you - he's not distracting and would to do the part justice, however, I'm afraid, in a way, your right - he is identified with the "right" and would be discounted by the low information, libertarian and other type voters who wouldn't take his performance seriously - if they even saw it!

B- Please please please select someone one a convincing ability to portfay the part, not based on looks. I still haven't forgiven Ayn for Gary Cooper in Fountainhead!

If we were to look at it from an Objectivist point of view, I think the answer would be A. As long as he is passionate about his job, that being an actor portraying Galt, it will be done justice.

Get the same actors as in part 2. Changing actors from film to film undercuts the suspension of disbelief

I like both - Gary Sinise is definitely up with the conservative message. Hugh Jackman - I have no clue, but he would surely get attention and his acting skills are superb.

Why are so many people choosing Gary Sinise? Not that I have anything against him as an actor, but I really don't think he has the charisma to pull off the John Galt character. I thought you guys were looking for a male actor who stands out in a crowd, even if he is more of the nerdy type character. It's too bad Greg Kinnear is almost 50 (too old to play a 30 something man) or I would have suggested him. I don't think you necessarily need star power because the actor might overshadow the the plot but it would certainly help to have a decent actor who is convincible in the role. I love Jim Caviezel as an actor but I think he is a bit too old for the part of John Galt. I also like Timothy Olyphant, Jonathan Rhys Meyers (loved him in August Rush), Ryan Gosling (superb in The Notebook) and I would have suggested Channing Tatum until I saw the promos for White House Down which looks like it could be the not so distant future with a POTUS of color being threatened by Tea Party Patriots! So he is definitely OUT! It's a shame that most of the young, good looking actors are Liberals because it really doesn't leave you with much to choose from, IMO.

To parlay current fad expressions - "OMG"!!!! Stellar - except for the fact that the "low informational voters" would totally disconnect.

its not that he usually plays the free spirit, is known for roles in which he has flown, his past roles are one of "me against the man", The biggest reason is they must be realistic as to who they can actually get.Name recognition with intellecyual audiance that may come just to see him, firefox and serenity fans, so its a matter of finding a following

I like your thinking process, however, I'm not sure who "Hank" is - Tom Hanks? (excellent!). This is not applicable, but, in the "old days" I could see Clark Gable - seriously!

Yea, Michael Weatherly would be perfect if he is not politically liberal. Close enough to right age.

On the topics of Josh - perhaps Josh Brolin? He played a great George W Bush and I suppose is more than handsome enough

I've always pictured John as rugged, handsome, sandy blonde hair, tall, Adonis like. Physically beautiful as well as a mental genius. That is my ideal fantasy man. And now, who could play that? I used to think Brad Pitt, but he has always been too much of a 'pretty boy'. And now he is too long in the tooth to be Galt. So now, the person who most fulfills my ideal Galt is Aaron Eckhart. Ruggedly handsome, the jawline of pure strength, very athletic, and he can act, which is frankly what the producers are looking for. Watch "Thank You for
Smoking" and you will see Galt.
But, if you get someone like Eckhart, Dagny would need to be recast, because Samantha Mathis would look old next to him. I like Taylor Schilling, but she was too much of a lightweight to pull off Dagny. About the only person I feel could have pulled off Dagny would have been Cate Blanchett. But now, she is probably too old. So that is my two cents worth. Just please, please don't cast D.B. Sweeney as Galt. I don't think I could bear to watch part three if that happens.
