Ideally, the actor playing John Galt in Atlas Shrugged Part 3 will appear to have jumped right off of the pages of Atlas Shrugged. However, in our quest to find the perfect John Galt, some tough choices may have to be made. That's where you come in.

If you had to choose, which would you consider the number one priority in casting John Galt?

A. As long as the actor looks and acts like John Galt, I don't care what his personal beliefs are.
B. The actor needs to possess a deep understanding of, and passion for, Ayn Rand's ideas first and foremost.

He needs to be a good actor first - passion for the ideas a plus.

I would go for A, because actors need not embody (in their personal life) the aspects of the character they're portraying ... but--having said that--it would probably be a good thing if someone were found who fit both A AND B !!

It is essential that the entire Galt speech be presented intact.

Imagine yourself before you read the book. Were you an Objectivist? Maybe the perfect choice will be in their 30's a apolitical and come to the story like we all di. There's no passion like new passion!

As a clarifier, these ideas should be limited to those found in Atlast Shrugged, and not to all of her personal beliefs.

Gary Sinise and James Caviezel could look the part. Brad Pitt could look the part as well. Bradley Cooper might make the list of look alike images in my mind as well. If they don't BELIEVE in Ayn Rand's philosophy they should at least be able to act well enough to make the audience believe that they do. Reading the book is a super sound idea...

B - how about a true conservative actor - like Stephen Baldwin? I'd go with Clint Eastwood if he were not so old.

Gary Sinise? Tom Selleck (possibly older than you are thinking of), Dean Cain, Kevin Sorbo, James Caviezel, or, if he were an actor, Dr. Ben Carson

Ideally, Burt Lancaster from 1950. Since that isn't possible, Timothy Olyphant might work.

A good speaking voice is very important. He needs to sound intelligent, and his speech should be a little bit on the "formal" side.
