Ideally, the actor playing John Galt in Atlas Shrugged Part 3 will appear to have jumped right off of the pages of Atlas Shrugged. However, in our quest to find the perfect John Galt, some tough choices may have to be made. That's where you come in.

If you had to choose, which would you consider the number one priority in casting John Galt?

A. As long as the actor looks and acts like John Galt, I don't care what his personal beliefs are.
B. The actor needs to possess a deep understanding of, and passion for, Ayn Rand's ideas first and foremost.

James Caviezel has the appearance that I would associate with John Galt and seems quite capable of correctly portraying the character. As others have noted, however, whoever is cast in this role needs to read, understand, and have passion for Ayn Rand's message and ideas.

B - I think the actor should be a conservative at least. What about James Caviezel?

Hi...I am right now not sure how old is John Galt in Atlas (I am now on page 729 and though I can read in english fine, it´s not my mother tongue...but about the actors, Benedict Cumberbatch with different haircut could work, Christian Bale or I can Imagine Michael C. Hall...And about A and B...more B than A, because I have to believe him he is not just reading the script

    Without a doubt... B!

I'm not sure how much weight you are giving the answers to these questions, but it is a huge turn off when an actor does a job ONLY for the money. Rand's work was about the refusal to compromise principles... why, then, would we choose an actor who is compromising their values to play a part with which they disagree? There ARE Libertarian actors out there... ask Clint Eastwood or Drew Carey for a recommendation!

He has to show the emotion of what he believes in!

All these big names were once unknowns. Get the Casting Director to hold auditions all over the place, and get an unknown or at least lesser-knowns like in AS 1 and 2. Come on! Surprise us!

Talent is the most important consideration. As for looks, someone who looks like Mark Wahlberg or Christian Bale or Montgomery Clift would be excellent.

I feel that the actor should have an understanding of Ayn Rand's beliefs, and an excitement for bringing them to the screen.

I was looking forward to DB Sweeny - any reason not to cast him?

We are talking about an actor. Leonardo Dicaprio is an excellent...ACTOR. Not that he's my choice at all however, if you're dealing with a skilled actor then whoever it is will be able to portray the message properly.

I think MARK HARMON would be the perfect John Galt - could come across with the sensitivity I image John Galt to have. Not sure of his politital leanings, but he is so good looking!

"the total package" that Dagney would choose over Francisco and Hank... That's exactly right. We need someone young enough to match Dagney, too. The right elements will make a good film.

A couple of younger guys that would do a good job as they can play "everyman" as well as "intellectual" are Channing Tatum and Joseph-Gordon Levitt. Don't know either gents philosophy, but as others have said, reading the book can lead to an epiphany.

Go with Simon Baker, then make sure he understands the text. Use Rand's dialogue not cheap diluted tripe.

This would be a perfect role for Justin Beiber to start his acting career.
