Lived in DC area for over a year, in my 55+ years of life I've never been thru so many power failures, including hurricanes in Texas than in the land of the politically elite, but they all have private commercial generators.

Most of the power in the DC area is underground, so you would think it less vulnerable than other parts of the country where the high power is almost all overhead. However, the DC systems were put in a long time ago, and like most of the national capitol infrastructure, not well maintained by a series of corrupt city governments.

Reminds me of a little over a year ago when all the world was watching America's biggest sporting event when...the lights went out.

Regularly I see things happen in America that remind me of Atlas Shrugged.
