Post numbers along the side reset for every page?

When you click NEXT to go to the next page of the posts, the numbers along the side (very faint, run from 1 - 25) reset and go back to 1 - 25, instead of continuing (26 - 50, etc.). I think they should probably continue, to avoid confusion :)
