first, yes I think the 5th is there to prevent you from self incrimination under oath. At the same time we generally do not allow this kind of a fishing expedition anywhere else. When facing the choice between right and wrong he chose to do what is right. This was as far as I can tell a pretty heroic act.

Custer was an arrogant glory hound....and still holds the world's record for number of ear piercings I believe.
Lol...we used to have a little metal soldier dude of General Lee not sure how accurate it looked but had to be closer than the car.

You are a fan of General Custer? I decided he's more of a General Lee. Do you know if you google for General Lee pictures, the only thing that comes up are pictures of the car in Dukes of Hazard?

Good for this guy for taking advantage of a teachable moment to exercise his 1st Amendment rights (and job as a teacher) to give a practical demonstration of their 5th Amendment rights. Being disciplined for it is also a teachable moment for the kids. They see that the PTB will retaliate. I hope the kids show the courage to support him.

The Fifth Amendment has no meaning outside of an oath to "tell the truth, and all the truth".

But, he was 'dead on' for letting his students know that they are not to be intimidated by the powers to be.

Such a questionnaire was never seen in my high school days, although drugs were not an issue when I was there. (Sometimes it becomes hard to relate to current issues, given my history.) Drinking was the drug of choice, and use to take up our entire weekend to accomplish....

Bottom line: General Custer II needs to be supported, if only for the sake of sanity.

The survey adds nothing to our social progress, but takes everything from our social freedom. 'Custer' has my support....

    Well,
let's just cram a giant gobstopper down his throat, and cut off his freedom of speech. Which he had apparently just taught his students about. Way to bring the lesson full circle!!!

As a parent I think the survey was intrusive (I am apposed to surveys in general anyway) and I would be thrilled that the teacher took a stand and followed up on his recent lessons about the Constitution instead of ignoring what he had just taught them and made them feel as if they HAD to fill out the survey....even if he does look like a pot head. lol
