Governments are just thieves and they are not owed anything. Their actions make a mockery of the idea that one should be productive and save money- only to have it taken by various governments.

I am definitely for keeping the "fugitives" who do no harm and are pulling their own weight here.
I have a trust issue with anything the Chinese say. Just like I do with O'Liar.

I particularly liked the part of the article about the new socialist government in Canada...."Canada, which elected a new federal government in October, has said it will continue to work on a deal with China to return corrupt officials in exchange for a share of the assets seized, which would be considered proceeds of the individual's crimes".......

So basically the socialists in Canada are willing to sell these folks down the river, provided they get a cut of the action.

For the USA to cooperate with China in this matter would be one more example of how close we are to Orwell's country Oceania. It requires hypocrisy, explained by doublespeak. It's wonderful how those old-fashioned sayings like throwing out the baby with the bath water are so cogent still.

Another case of US federal government hypocrisy.
Fortunately the Russians are doing the same to the US with Edward Snowden and Ecuador is doing the same to Sweden with Julian Assange.

I don't see what Assange has gained. He has probably been stuck in that embassy longer than he would have spent in a Swedish jail on that biased rape charge.

Not having that experience, I am speculating, but a forced stay in an embassy in London wearing your own clothes, eating good food and wine, doesn't compare to an orange jumpsuit. gruel, and buggering in a Swedish jail after a politically biased and likely unfair trial.

I am not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean that the US government should hand these business people over the Chinese government?

No, the US govt will make a big deal about how bad the Chinese are for chasing these people, and the media will praise the non-effort of the fedgov in deporting them, but then the fedgov does the same thing to Americans who leave or want to leave. That includes income taxation on all income from outside the US and looting the assets of anyone who legally decides to move overseas. Anyone trying to escape the clutches of the fedgov, become more productive, and who try to keep what they produce get forced instead to pay government employees to steal their accumulated assets.

Thanks for the clarification. I am not sure that the US gov't is ideological one way or the other on this. They broke no US laws, and - perhaps more to the point - are willing to pay taxes here.

I do understand about the hypocrisy, though. On your inspiration, I am going to write about my personal tale of transnational tax woe for the Gulch.
