That would require two things that you lack.
1. The ability to dumb yourself down.
2. Develop a skin of Armadillo.

The only problem is that these "entertainers" can affect our lives with loss of freedom. Also, the price of admission to their follies is way too high. Man, I miss Johnny Carson, who never did any political humor and managed to make us laugh for 20 or so years.

Still a couple months from the first caucus and primary in quirky Iowa and NH. Another couple months after that to get through a significant number of them. Conventions not for another 8 months. General election not for another 10 months. This is just news media building ratings numbers at this point. Trump v Sanders could provide opening for other candidates. How about a US House candidate. Wins a couple key States to keep major party candidates from 270 in the EC. Presidential election goes to US House among top three EC vote getters. US House votes by State, 1 vote per State, and 26 is needed to win.

I believe it is all about the power and privilege of the King and his merry men. Governments produce nothing and we have allowed ours to get completely out of hand for a very long time. The founding fathers have left their graves and gone to the gulch.
I agree that politicians have to be entertainers and salesman first and foremost. I also agree that few if any have any real business savvy which should be an absolute requirement along with some military leadership experience. I fully understand how many refuse to vote so as not to promote this insanity. However, we are living in an insane world and honestly believe that a non vote is a vote for the winner because all of those non votes could easily have changed the outcome.
Political parties are one in the same with the identical agenda, do what ever must be done to remain in the power seats. If the minions must live within their means or suffer the consequences so too should the power brokers. We have allowed the cold hard truth to elude us and you will not get it from the Gov, media or any other source centered around the government. I don't care who wins this upcoming election, thing will not get better but will be spun in a more palatable way according to the party you stand with. Our debt will continue to rise until it chokes us to death at which point the government will fall. There is lots of history in that! As much as I would love to see an honest politician those two words have no business being together in a sentence.
I will absolutely vote and at this point I would much prefer to see a successful businessman pulling the strings over some other who's turn it is to do the steering. Note that I never said that might make things any better but it sure as hell can't make things any worse!

A long time ago, in a Galaxy far away, America was different from the rest of the world. America had a unique Constitution that limited the powers of the government, not the people. The people were the chosen few from around the world, who had a desire to better themselves through their own efforts, not through help, and burden, of others. It had a work ethic and a much higher literacy rate than the rest of the world. As all of these features that made America exceptional were destroyed, there was nothing left to do but for the new Amerika to join the rest of the world - uneducated, unmotivated, lazy and looking to government for bread and circuses. Of course, that begat a breed of politicians like in the rest of the world - petty tyrants that live for the day. Why would anyone be surprised?

please rethink "no more intelligent or able than any of the rest of us". I personally do not believe these people who chose politics as a way of life have the intelligence that I hake in my pinky toe.
And i think none has your intelligence either or that of almost all who chose not to be politicians.

Rand Paul won't get enough votes because he can't or won't identify enemies of civilization, against whom sometimes you have to move on historical grounds alone. ("Fight and slay the infidels!" Sounds like a declaration of war against everybody, even if Muhammad did write it 1400 years ago.) If he would come to grips with the external danger, I'd have no quarrel with him.

That said...I would jump at the opportunity to be an economic advisor to one of these - much like Peter Schiff's role with Ron Paul. I think these politicians need help in this area. I actually might have the qualifications for it. And, I could contribute. I will never run for any office. Ever. Would rather be in the shadows, anyway.

I'm in the same club. I don't vote, either. I find it very interesting to see the public get worked up like the campaign is the Superbowl. It's just spectacle. And...even though I'm not a supporter, I am appalled at how biased the news reporting in prime time is against Trump. HIllary tells an outright lie about him and the news story is that he's asking for an apology - not that she lied. I watched that last night and, I admit, I got sucked in for a minute. I was yelling at the tv. I finally, after cooling down, just told my wife, "I really don't have hope for America." This is the news source most rely on? We're finished.

"The president is just a puppet, for the most part." Bingo! As all politicians are. In my opinion, it's all a ridiculous show to make people feel that they have some control when in actuality they have no control over government. I for one refuse to vote, as I feel that is giving my sanction to this insanity.

I agree with much of what you say. I'm not sure if doing things that the masses don't like is what I want to see. Take Obamacare as an example. But if we had good leaders that believe in small government & follow the constitution that likely would not be an issue either.

I have long thought the skill set needed to play the entertainment game that is the election process is completely different from the skills needed to be legislator or a executive of any organization.

Election requires you to pander to the masses. Leading requires you to do things the masses will not like until you show them the way and show the success. Only then will those following like the leader.

A person making laws has to think about the impact and the legality of those laws. If they are pandering to the masses they will make laws which are bad, bad being defined as laws which protect a collective rather than an individual.

So yes I share the frustration.

Elections should be limited to stock holders in the country voting, and that would make it much better as the "Useful Idiots" would not come into play. I do not understand why someone would expect to vote in a company without being a stock holder, or in a country. It is not the only cause but it does add to the nonsense.

I'm convinced that politics and the election process has never been a place for statesmen or citizens, Politicians, for the most part are no more intelligent or able than any of the rest of us, they are just better trained and experienced at making themselves liked. Then the parties set up an election and press/media coverage like a football season with a big play-off. Then after the election, the winner becomes the spokesman/talking-heads for those that make the real decisions.

To me politics is simply a high stakes game. A game playing with people's lives. So my answer to your question is yes, it is a form of (bad) entertainment.
