New State of Matter Discovered

In addition to the four classical states of matter (solid, liquid, gas, and plasma), a team at the University of Colorado Joint Institute for Lab Astrophysics has recently discovered what they believe to be a new state of matter, called Dropletons.

This is certainly an interesting discovery, but it appears as though there are already many other non-classical states of matter as well, so maybe not a totally earth-shattering discovery.

Still, pretty interesting.

Ever since I learned of Jan Hendrick Schön in a class in Ethics in Physics, I take a wait-and-see position. Schön fooled _Nature_ among others. _Nature_ makes its money by reporting new discoveries, not by waiting and seeing. That said, I did find amusing this claim from the article which reminded me of Lord Kelvin's dismissal of heavier-than-air flight: "JILA lab leader Professor Steven Cundiff says, “Nobody is going to build a quantum droplet widget." " I wish to live long enough to enjoy the first quantum droplet widget.
