Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday (not to be confused as implying a 'holy day'), practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practice of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or for their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2016, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country, nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee. . Merry PC! -- john

The problem is that we keep expecting the politicians to "do something" to solve our problems. As long as we keep asking them to do so, they will keep finding things to "solve."

Yes, Christmas! Not "Happy Holidays." Remember to put a little bit of atheist money into the Salvation Army's kettles. I've not found another charity that's better. (I really enjoy telling the bell-ringer, "Here's an ATHEIST dollar!")

Richie offered, "Wow, he just made the international sign of the doughnut." And Grandma noticed, "They blew up Congress! Ha ha ha ha!" Just last night I bought the Blu-ray of Mars Attacks, replacing my DVD copy. How timely! Thank you.

Aha! So THAT'S what could go wrong!
I bless you back with a quote repeatedly said by busy ray gun shooters in Mars Attacks: "We come in peace. We come in peace."

You're wrong about the 58 states. The big 0 said 57 with 1 more to go, not counting Alaska and Hawaii. So that's 60 states altogether in 0's delusion nation. Now, I'll offer you a religious blessing from the 1940 film, The Thief of Bagdad, in which a wealthy man addresses Abu and Ahmad with, "Now out of my way, you masters of a thousand fleas. Allah be with you, but I doubt it."

My brand of hard-core atheism generally induces me to start with, "Happy Holidays." If someone wishes me "Merry Christmas," I respond, "And to you, too, and a Happy New Year." Occasionally, I open with, "Happy Humbug and a prosperous New Year!" The recipients always treat that as humorous and offer a cheery response. Circa Christmas Eve, I'll open with a straight, "Merry Christmas."
In a similar vein, when I sneeze and someone offers, "God bless you," I politely respond, "Thank you," though not really expecting a deity to intercede on my behalf. (Grammatically, commanding a third-person god to bless my health is a jussive subjunctive.)
When I sneeze and nobody says anything, I bless myself (as though that might help) with, "Bless me—Thank me—I'm welcome." (Mustn't be impolite, especially to myself.)

To all you over sessive types, Jesus wasn't born on December 25. There isn't an accurate record of his birth. However, his death and resurrection is well documented Merry Christmas to all.

Being an American tradition and Being an American, I have to say, under penalty of progressive lawlessness:

Merry Christmas and I hope your Hanukkah was bright....Oh...and here's to a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Thank you, John, for your good wishes, although I take offense to the fiscally successful and healthy part of your statement - it is unexcussably insensitive to those that are unfortunate fiscally and in poor health. Who is your lawyer?

Unfortunately those who walk the halls of congress, which is all they do, are deaf, dumb and blind to what we are all about, that is those of us who were born to people who came here 100 + years ago and built the country that these functioning illiterates are now successfully destroying.

Back in 1967 a friend wrote on her front window, " Merry Tripmas and a Happy New High".. So here a couple of years later I would wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy(and productive) New Year.

What a very nice thing for you to do. I went to a predominately Jewish high school. There was never a problem with observing Christmas. We even had a Christmas tree in the main entrance way. The Jewish kids helped decorate the tree. It makes the heart sad to think that our country stands for freedom from religion instead of freedom of religion.

And for all Erisians and Zaroastrian Tree Worshipers I'll say, same to you. May you prosper in good health and never need anything that you can't do for yourself.

good for you. even Ayn Rand liked Christmas. I grew up in Brooklyn home to 2 million jews and who knows how many Christians, many of my friends are christians and when it came to this time of year we always respected them and said merry Christmas. I have been an atheist since the age of 15 but that didn't stop me to this day saying merry Christmas to one and all.

"Merry" may be too excitable a word and thus be offensive to some.
Maybe a "mellow PC solstice reason for the season" would be grander for blander.
What we need here is a vapid PC nation under intellectual sedation. All ho ho O 58 states.
    Yeah, just get along.
    What could go wrong?

Because Christmas is not a sanctioned observance by the PC crowd. The PC crowd would like to regulate Christmas to someplace way below Ground Hog's Day. However, because Christmas means a lot to me, I do want to say to everyone in The Gulch, "Merry Christmas!"
