How to Save the American Economy with Thorium Reactors

If you have never heard of Thorium Reactors, this is the future. Again, just another story of government getting in the way of what's right. Another sample of how 'Atlas Shrugged' is not far flung theory but reality in the science of our day.

Yes, because the Department of Energy wants us dependent on other forms that they already regulate through organizations they also control.

    Thanks for the update!!

I have been following Thorium for the last couple of years. The idea is pretty amazing. The Physics agree with the idea. Oh, and we had a test reactor up and running at one time. Now, we have the remains of a test reactor, and the papers left behind by some truly amazing engineers. Now, we are left scrambling trying to rebuild it. Thorium, is abundant enough, and energetic enough to essentially be a renewable energy source ( the sun will burn out before we run out of Thorium ). Lets see, the reactors could be used to burn up our current surplus of nuclear waste. It can be used to efficiently, desalinate sea water. The heat from the reactors could be used to take carbon from the air and make new liquid fuels. Ohh, and bring the cost of electricity down under .08$ per Kilowatt Hour.

The thing is we don't have to search for the inventor. We know he is dead... But, we do have to deal with a DOE that is dead set against anyone building a new test reactor.

As long as there are money to be made, those controlling media will be bashing anything that will be in the way of making money, unless critical mass of 10% will prevail. Hybrid engines, fully electric engines, etc. there are so many of them now, that no one can hold it back. When the perfect energy resource well be plenty, then there will be no going back and no one will be able to ridicule it. Alas, they will find a way to tax and regulate it "for the common good".

I agree. It would appear that thorium would be the ideal energy source for portable energy devices. But of course that would threaten the International Electrical Workers Union, and they want to be plugged to our houses with smart meters and legal intrusion, which is why they are in bed with politicians.

    Hello overmanwarrior,
I believe in an all of the above approach. We shouldn’t stifle or prop up existing technologies anymore than we do new technologies. I have been of the mind that the free market should decide, but in order for that to happen we must have a government that does not participate in cronyism. They should be the protectors of the free market, but they are the enemies, for sake of patronage and personal gain. I have been interested in alternative energy for some time. Even wind, solar, and combination systems seem to have some potential for the independent user who wishes to get off the grid. Of course the initial investment is prohibitive to many and the lifespan of the equipment is also of concern in regards to return. The problem is the large scale attempts to keep the generation in the hands of the mega-corps that with government collusion rob us of our independence. Whatever technology offers, the solution will best be found when each household has its own power-station.

If thorium reactors or pixie dust are the future energy supplies the most important factor will be in allowing competition through the free market to keep costs competitive. This will never occur as long as there are politicians who see opportunity in patronage to one producer over another.
    Regards,
    O.A.
