Yes, it would take 85-90 gun-free zone gun homicides per year to make 1%. And there could be some of that number that are incidental to the zone. For example, drug dealers would not care if it was gun free or not when shooting at the competition.
I think they are a small percentage of the homicides recorded; the "gun control nuts" just covertly mislead regarding its statistical significance. Elimination of those zones would make a big difference to potential victims families though. I think ending the Drug War would have a bigger effect reducing gun homicides, imo.
Homicides using firearms have been about 8500-9000 per year for the five years 2009-2014. I found lots of articles with conflicting stats on gun free zones online, but none that actually say how many have died in gun free zones. Its like neither side wants to state the data because they know the other side will poke holes in the argument used. imo, they both are GIGO. Based on my recollection, mass shootings each year are miniscule compared to the 9000 gun homicides. This article estimates that Drug War related homicides are at least 1100 per year: http://narcosphere.narconews.com/note...
Of course this is speculation on my part but...just think what would happen to the homicide rate if we did not have the killing zones, or I mean gun free zones.
