To the best of my knowledge, the right to bear arms is a right to defend yourselves should your government become corrupt. I'm sure that's the main reason.

I suppose it's as simple as... no law abiding UK civilian owns a gun with a view to using it in self defence because to do so means a jail sentence. It ain't worth it. Plenty of folk own air rifles which they use for sport or killing vermin but that's as far as it goes here. It's just the British way. I could say it's no bad thing... BUT... I no longer consider Great Britain a peaceful place to live. I'm convinced there is a crooked (Communist) agenda within parliament. It makes no difference who gets voted in, no government has done anything satisfactory for the rights of the indiginous people it supposedly represents, in twenty years. They've pussyfooted around & refused to address issues which are staring them in the face. Our politicians are not allowed to pass any law without running it by Europe first. They have the final word on everything. All that said, there's only one reason I'd buy a gun now, & that's for the same reason you guys own them.

I already did & showed my wife too the other day. Our chat really helped me see things from your side. Being a law abiding citizen - generally, I'd never really thought about gun ownership from a 'right to defend my life' point of view.

And you're absolutely right to do so. We are defenceless. There's no point in owning a weapon here. If a civilian used ANY weapon against even the most violent of thugs, rest assured, the police WOULD FIND OUT WHO DID IT. Of course the criminals know how to use weapons & not get found out but they're usually 'well connected'.
