Guns selling like hotcakes

Just a personal observation. I was at the local gun shop last night and, man, that place is hopping. People are buying guns like crazy - lots of easy-to-carry guns.

    I also noticed a couple guys around me being very open about being there to purchase a gun to carry. I think we will soon have armed citizens in a lot more places.

      Its a good think to have armed citizens. They are the only one who can protect themselves and as a side issue- YOU- when some crazed religious zealot muslim comes around to kill people for ALLAH

        I'll be packing my concealed pocket pistol when I do some Christmas shopping tomorrow,.
        Stores where I go will be safer for it.
        I know how to shoot straight.
        I've job-related NRA qualified at least 25 times during my life span and still shoot tight groups.
        Some say I like to brag about that but, aw, they must be kidding.

          I am a good shot. But, have decided to start setting aside more range time in order to become a great shot. With a rifle I'm deadly.

            When I was a corrections officer, I recall firing an AR14 in the prone position at the range beside the assistant dog warden, who was also shooting.
            He made gasping remarks over my accuracy.
            But the trouble is, when does a tower officer use the prone position? Nada!
            With other weapons in various positions, I am an above average shot.
            I'm only a great shot prone with an AR15.

              I am interested in trying some of the longer-distance target shooting with rifle, regularly. There is a really great shooting center out in the sticks south of town that has several different ranges. A couple years ago I just sat and watched the ultra-long range competitive guys practicing on the longest range out on the north end of the facility. That was pretty fascinating to watch.

                Long range shooting IS fascinating.
                Keep in mind that an emergency need to defend yourself will most likely occur within pistol range.
                At home I keep a pump shotgun within reach of my bed.
                Just the sound of "racking a round" should send an intruder fleeing.
                During my career, I learned that is a very effective way to get the undivided and instantly compliant attention of misbehaving inmates when I was often a back gate tower officer who operated the double gates of a sally port.

      Remember the first Assault Weapons ban? SKS form China which are really crap weapons were brought in by truckloads and ammunition by truckloads of pallets and set up that way at a first day of ban gunshow I attended in San Jose, California.

      Stacks of munitions by the pallet formed the backdrop of each vendors display. By shows end not one SKS not case of ammo was left.

      How did it get past the so called import ban. Same President forgot about NAFTA. Chinese ships went to local ports in Mexico offloaded inot 18 wheelers and headed north. No hay problema....

      You are correct Government IS the main proponent and compelling argument for gun sales.

      Curiously it's always when the left is in power....

    The local Bass Pro had ticket dispensers and numbers being called for service at the rifle counter on Black Friday... easily over 100 in line at any given time. California's 10 day waiting period makes it very easy to sell in volume, just put the same one back on the shelf, pull the serial number off the computer from warehouse inventory, and help the next customer, they have 10 days to move the product from warehouse to back-stock for the customer to pick it up.

    I've got an easy-to-carry S&W snub 38. Going to buy a home protector today. My hands have arthritis and neuropathy Which makes pulling a slide difficult. So, I buy revolvers. Trying to decide between a Dirty Harry or a 357. Interesting that my local MOM&POP gunshop is doing fabulous, yet the owner isn't all that happy. He confided that this is not the way in which he wanted to prosper. He's a good man.

      As an owner of a "Dirty Harry" 44 magnum as well as 357 Dan Wesson and having arthritis in my hands as well I would recommend the 357. Unless you want to be unable to hit the broadside of a barn on your second shot. The 44 is a hand cannon.

        I just got back from buying a 357. Guess I took your advice through telepathy. The 44 looked & felt like a mini-cannon. It's out to the range this weekend.

            I've hole-punched with a 357 in the past. No problem so long as I remember my training.You should see this gun shop. A movie couldn't do it justice. It started as a tiny hole in the wall store selling mostly used. Then they expanded to the store next to them which was on a slightly different level. Rather than knocking down the wall, they just made an opening so that it looks like two stores glued together and then they added on a storage space. It looks like a small labyrinth. They only run it 4 days a week, no nights, no Sundays, Mondays or Tuesdays. Yet, it's narrow aisles are always jammed with customers, hangers-on and guys and gals talking guns. We have big, neat, slick gun shops here. But this is my kind of place, where Mom & Pop both can tell you more about guns than you'd ever want to know.

              Not to do oneupsmanship here, but I have one for you. I live in a very remote area. We have a gun shop that is open 1 or maybe 2 days a week. The FFL runs it our of his old garage. He works Monday thru Thursday at another job. If you want something during those days you stop at this other work place and tell him what you want and he will have it ready for you on Friday or Saturday. His weekday workplace is just down the road from my house. I have noticed that there is a marked increase in the number of Pickups in the parking lot. He is busier than a one armed wallpaper hanger.

                One armed paperhanger? Reminds me of the man who lost a leg in Iraq. When a friend asked how he was doing his reply was, "Oh, I can't kick."

    We will need the guns when the currency apocalypse hits. There will be hordes of people who have nothing to lose roaming the streets to get what the government cant provide any more. Our government will soon try to stop sales of guns, making the black market at ridiculous prices the only way to get them.

    Last night's news story claimed there were about 2 dozen people standing in line at a gun store in California. Unless my eyes deceived me, it looked like a LOT more than 2 dozen!

    Another part of the story was based on Australia's gun laws. The reporter said the difference between Australia and the U.S. was that Australia didn't have a powerful gun lobby. The most important thing she neglected to mention was that Australia also doesn't have a 2nd Amendment!

    Gee...you don't suppose that was planned, do you?

        The article said each year has been higher than the previous year. This year was at least a 5% increase.

            Concentrate on the next nine. What is the best way to take advantage of the situation and NOT let it remain the usual slide back and forth between the left and right wings of the left?

            If you don't like the Fiorini/Jindal idea and since there exist no other plan except business as usual and more whining.. write candidate KNOWING it's a winner take all vote perhaps Allison the former CEO of BB&T? For a start he's one of us, proved it and is not a friend of the governments. That's two probables against zero other offers except vote for the left come to think of it primaries are not winner take all but they do lead to top two vote getter limits for the general election. At least in Washington State which went wholly left wing fascist under Comrade Christine Gregoire

        Avoid the small frame .357 Ruger revolver unless you enjoy excessive recoil. (Based on experience from 10 yrs ago, so may have changed.) Better a heavy hand gun than a light one for comfortable recoil.

          I'm with you. My 357 is the Taurus Tracker. Heavy gun, ported up. Very nice shooting gun. I would think the small frame magnums are like putting a 350 in a Pinto. Fun, but hard to manage. I was looking at their 38 Special. Nice CCW.

          The gun shop was really hopping...

              .357 Taurus with an 8" barrel. One decent pistol in 10mm or .40 or above and one .22. 9mm only if you live where that's all they have and then only in 115 grain SJHP with a polished feed ramp. The revolver wants a custom fitted set of grips for comfort and control but think about .38+P again with SJHP this time 125 grain.

              .38, .357 and 9mm, .380 are all .355 to .360.

              Caliber is from the Latin Gual Libre meaning What weight back from the days of slinging rocks and then cannon balls.

              Sometimes you will a description like this.

              The main guns were such and such a diameter then ending with 50 caliber that extra parts refers to the diameter of the inside of the barrel times the final http://number.so a .50 MG 50 cal would have a 25" barrel - as best I remember it and that's a sample not a real designation.

              Why did the US go to 9mm. Politics with the NATO countries. Giving a useful weapon to the infantry had nothing to do with it. Also the unstated notion was rear area puke staff officers would be able to qualify with something more than a lead pencil.

    For handguns, good rounds are the ammo by Liberty, called Civil Defense. Moderately expensive, but impressive velocities (1900 FPS 45 ACP, 1500 FPS 380) with low recoil. One overlooked gun is the Tokarev in 7.62 x 25 - low price, comfortable to shoot, powerful round.

    They said on Black Friday that the gun checks were running about 2 check every second for a total of 185,345. A record for a single day. Way to go Obama.
