"Bullied Michigan teen shines as homecoming princess"

Is the deifnition of bullying too loose now? It seems kind of weird that someone can be bullied by being given a social reward, even if she is given it ironically. Isn't the greater issue here that students didn't take the social reward process "seriously"?
I don't know where the line is, but violence/force and psychologically damaging interactions are NOT healthy for anyone. However, I do agree that learning how to deal with emotional/psychological intimidation/social posturing is important.
To this day I remember my father coming in the room quiet as he normally did when I had gotten in trouble. He told me that he wanted to hear the story and that I had better not lie to him. I explained while he nodded his head and smiled. He told me, "Son you should never try to get in a fight. If you have tried everything you can to avoid it then you have to commit to it. You fight back and don't stop until there is no fight left left in the other guy."
I don't advocate violence but when you are greeted with it one has the right to put a stop to it. I look forward to a similar conversation with my son in the coming years.
