If you haven't kept up on all of the voting drama these past few days, this post should help summarize: http://www.galtsgulchonline.com/posts/51...

I'm glad to report that guest voting has been restored, with one caveat... you must have earned 100+ Gulch points. Here's the message guest members will see when they have yet to accumulate enough points...

While we're very happy to have you in the Gulch and appreciate your wanting to fully engage, voting in the Gulch is a privilege, not a right. To get you up to speed as quickly as possible, we've provided two options for earning the privilege to vote in the Gulch.

1. You must reach a Gulch score of 100. You can earn points in the Gulch by posting content, commenting, or by other members voting up your posts.
2. You may upgrade to a Galt's Gulch Producer membership to immediately have the ability to vote.

Thanks again to blarman for the suggestion ( http://www.galtsgulchonline.com/posts/51... ) and of course jbaker for making it happen so quickly.

you do not appear to be upgraded yet [that is, you're missing your shiny gold badge] - can you access producer-only areas?

Plenty of serious comments and discussions in here Harry. Don't peruse the comments and posts you find trivial. But there's going to be some meandering occasionally- I guess not on YOUR posts

    Winterwind:
trivia, gossip, rude remarks, side comments, silliness and general drivel
That's your description. Not all the best.
Granted INTELLIGENT humor has its' place

But "considering serious topics" every single minute tires the mind, dulls the imagination, smothers creativity, and is exhausting.
You honestly think that our Founders never adjourned - actually, I was going to say "never adjourned to a nearby tavern for a break and an ale - but that's where a lot of meetings were held.
Remember, it's "the best within us". Not just the most serious, or the deepest thoughts, or any one path the human brain can follow. It's supposed to be ALL of the best within us.

Hello amagi, I wanted to check with you on this. I don't see a record of you signing up for a producer membership, but if you did I want to make sure it didn't get missed somehow.

I think that's the way the US Constitution and the
Bill of Rights was agreed upon. By a majority vote.

Isn't this just peachy keen... non-members getting the "privilege" to vote. Maybe the U.S. should adopt the same liberal logic -- just because you are NOT a citizen you can "earn" the "privilege" to vote by earning a "voting score" of 100 by keeping out of jail for 6 months, by working to 6 months, by doing "something" for some period of time. Ayn Rand must be rolling over in her grave. Want to vote, then become a member of Galt's Gulch.

Hey Randy. While you do have to wait a bit to vote, you can submit as many posts as you like. Post submissions actually count towards your score as well.

    NO, NO.
There is plenty of trivia, gossip, rude remarks, side comments, silliness and general drivel here to make it a real society. I like that. All-serious-all-the-time is too much too sustain. Did you, BTW, look around and see how many posts "earn" 10 points? I'd be curious.

Congratulations, you've just invented the tyranny of the majority for speech. Hmmm, how about letting all the congressbeings vote on which news stories should make the front page major news outlet?
What if you and I disagree on whether a post delivers the right quality or not?
    NO, NO, NO, NO, NO.

Ah, while I (a moocher) may not submit a post, I can still comment and my comments count toward the "price of admission".
However, being the treasurer of a local amateur radio club, I fully understand the need to limit voting to those who actually pay dues.
Actually, I didn't need to mention any of this...I just wanted to up my comments level...grin.

Thanks for all the work put into this, jbaker and blarman! Seems a very good way to stem the crazy negative tide.
