    I think that Ayn Rand said it best. Take it from the front matter of the book. John Galt shut off the motor of the world. Galt's Oath is the essential message of _Atlas Shrugged_.

    In my own words: "John Galt liberated producers from looters and moochers who tax both our physical achievements and our spiritual independence. John Galt freed himself from pain and fear and guilt by recognizing his right to his own life on his own terms. He demonstrated these truths to all of the producers who make civilization possible, from the accomplished bus driver to the impassioned scientist, and especially to the entrepreneurs and traders who create and improve the social environment of personal profit."

    John Galt is a free man. He values his liberty over any degree of security offered by an amoral society. He is a creator not a taker. He is a producer and looters fear him. John Galt's actions speak to those who are ready to join him. Are you?

    John Galt is the name Ayn Rand gave to that part of all free men who choose to think, create and live by their own beliefs that no man is a slave to another and his creations are his own. No doubts, no guilt and no compromise of man's free will.

    Who is John Galt? He is the man who showed the world that fidelity to oneself and ones own ideas and ones own happiness are the highest principles achievable for humans on Earth.

    John galt is the man that brought the world to its knees by depriving its leaders of victims. He is the man that defied an entire worlds moral code and created his own world -- a world without sacrifice.

    John Galt, the free man.
    He will not live or work for you,
    he does not want you to live or work for him.
    He will neither give nor take -
    but he will trade value for value.

    John Galt embodies the original spirit of America. Those that forged out on their own to explore and create. In today's society he embodies the competitive spirit of a true Entrepreneur. He is;
    1. Creative
    2. Conscientious
    3. Disagreeable. (meaning he does not bend what he believes in just to appease what society thinks).

    He believes that one man can make a difference, and that it takes one brave man to be the first to stand up, say no, and stop doing what society says is the norm when that man knows the norm is not always in the right.

    It is the man who goes through life sating his desire with air, his lust with water, his fears with fire and his phobias with earth. He has no regrets but not working enough. He knows no boundary of a social nature, because he doesn't recognize them as legitimate.

    That or

    He's the epitomization of all the different Joe Schmoes out there, eclectically rummaging through the garbage bins of high society looking for elegance while constantly worrying and fretting about his vanity, his bank account and his wife. The only thing he is frightened of is everything, but he's so stubborn he'll take it out in flesh rather than show it. That's just how depraved he is for authentic affection. He's still something of a hero, because he knows the price of his way of life is a chronic, hollowing, gritty-tasting sensation of death and yet he still goes on with pride in his gait. Why? Because he knows..: He may not be original, but he is the most.
