The uproar over the IRS is akin to a scandal over a serial killer’s parking tickets. Horror of horrors, the tax collection agency has threatened civil liberties! Have the horrified been asleep, Rip Van Winkle-like, for the last century? The IRS’s mission statement is to violate a far more important civil liberty than a supposed right to politically unbiased application of tax regulations and audit procedures: the right to keep what one produces.
...Everything a government takes comes from the people. The larger and more powerful it gets, the less money, power, and civil liberties the people have. The Founding Fathers knew there were no political angels. Their solution was a small, constrained government, its leaders deliberately hamstrung in their exercise of power by the Constitution’s separation of powers, checks and balances, and Bill of Rights. We’ve discarded all that. Regardless of who holds power, as the blob continues to expand, civil liberties will continue to shrink
