Call it consumer fraud! Many of the "fruits" used in popular breakfast cereals are really just fake fruits made out of refined factory ingredients like:

• Artificial coloring chemicals
• GMO corn starch
• GMO soybean oil
• Corn syrup solids

So which breakfast cereals can you really trust to deliver REAL fruits versus FAKE fruits?

In this investigation, we examine nine popular cereals.

Great post! Very detailed and enlightening. Now if only these same investigators can move onto random colleges & universities to prove that they don't teach anything except indoctrination. I can see these investigators going far in their career.

I do this really crazy thing. I buy fresh fruit and cut it up and put it on oatmeal or granola (yes, I eat granola and I am not a Democrat). Then all I have to worry about is pesticide residues.

ok, I just need to point out that anyone who would think that the "berries" in dry cereal are real would have to be too stupid for their own good... If you want a shelf stable dry but edible fruit in your cereal your choice is some pretty scary sounding chemistry or not eating it in the first place. In the meantime lets keep in mind that there is LD50 data for distilled water floating around out there somewhere..

I'm glad I prefer plain old Oatmeal and Cream of Rice with the occasional Shredded Wheat.

Cream of Rice is actually quite good. Like Cream of Wheat only rice instead ;). I've never tried cocowheat. I'll look in the store today.

I'm not sure you can get it everywhere. another type-close-is Malt-O-Meal. But it's not as chocolatey.
when I was a kid, our mom wouldn't buy sugared cereal. so it was Cheerios, chex or coco wheats or oatmeal. I would longingly look at the cereal aisle and dream of Boo-Berry or count chocula or Lucky charms. it was only to be if I was at someone else's house, until I had my own money. Then, I never chose it over jolly ranchers or rootbeer balls-we weren't allowed to have candy either. My kids could eat mostly anything. They never really cared for cereal nor candy. After Halloween, their bags of candy would sit there for a few months before I threw it all away.

We weren't allowed sugary stuff either. The closest we got to anything like that was on a cold rainy day we'd get hot Shredded Wheat that was baked with a little butter & sugar on top and milk for moisture. We did get candy on holidays. I still remember getting ribbon candy in my christmas sock and See's chocolate bunnies at easter.
