I just happened across this site, and they appear to be
reputable, though not cheap. . I have requested info about
their instructions and literature. . could help with readiness for
an uncertain future!!!

p.s. I just bought a programming cable and a
set of Chandler's instructions for the Baofeng
radios (I have a couple or few). . $39. -- j

It looks like they buy a basic radio, accessories, and a bag to carry it in. They also have some literature about using it and getting licensed. You could pull this together yourself, but maybe it's worth paying a little extra someone who is passionate about it, has selected the best accessories, and approaches it from a disaster readiness.

I don't know if it's true today, but 25 years ago when electronics was just an avocation for me, there were clubs with many people who sort-of secretly longed for disaster so they could put their radio equipment to work.
