    Start with the basic definitions of liberal and conservative in their use of describing politics and the idea is not far fetched. By those definitions the entrenched Dinos and Rinos are conservative. The liberal label then goes to the whomever are the outsiders.

    Why not libertarians. Is there another organized group of note to claim the title?

    Take a lot of people who claim to be 'clasical liberals' and they won't fit the definition any better than 'libertarians.'
