With Russian troops holding all of the key areas and surrounding the Crimean Parliament building, how legitimate is the vote?
Given the relative density of the ethic Russians and flight of the Ukrainians, the vote will most likely be representative of the people remaining in the Crimea.
But what happens if the vote turns out they, the people want to remain in Ukraine? That's when it will get interesting.
