First 'KFC' to open in Iran shut down after 24 hours for being too American

Excellent example of just how religious idiots and politics can strangle business. Why they even tried this (although they say it is MUSLIM chicken), is beyond me.

    Hello nickursis,

"Despite a thaw in relations during the nuclear talks, Iran's hardliners are wary of embracing any Western-style restaurants, which they say is "behavior contrary to Islamic-Iranian culture and traditions." Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, has called the establishment of such restaurants a red line that would not be crossed."

Two stories: 1. It wasn't an official KFC; as set up it was probably an illegal operation and copyright infringement. 2. They are incredibly intolerant and of necessity oppressive in order to maintain tyranny, control... power.

Is it too patriotic, nationalist, or culturalist to suggest that some American twentieth century (KFC) cultural influence might actually help bring them a few centuries closer to the present?

Besides... it wasn't the other white meat... :)
    ...Want fries with that?

    Have a great day,
    O.A.

Thanks OA. I did not see where it indicated either way if sanctioned or not, the bit about it being Turkish, and there for Muslim was quite cute though. It is all about power, and yes, I do agree that there is no way they would ever let anything US go on there, unless it was something they wanted (like parts for airplanes made in the US, those apparently are not considered "impure".) It is all about control and power.
