I know I am crazy (if you don't believe it, ask my wife) but the demeaning results of the welfare state is more cruel than imprisonment and possibly why we have so many people locked up. The bad old days of coal, oil, steel, etc. barons taking advantage of poor laborers are nothing compared to this. As a matter of fact, sweating in a mill or mine 14 hours a day lead to self respect, a desire for betterment, elevation of families to higher social\economic status and the building of the heritage that we are living off of the remnants of today. Where is donating our plasma or sperm going to take us?

I spent a lot of time in the late 70s in the top of a building
at k25 in oak ridge where the temperature was 115F and
I was the responsible engineer. . didn't think twice, just
did it. . took care to drink plenty of electrolytes. -- j

Wow. That was interesting. I wonder if the government will declare plasma an essential need at some point and stop allowing companies to pay for it. By my count I donated a couple thousand dollars worth free of charge over the years. We had a blood bank at our local hospital and the nurses were attractive. I never thought about getting paid.

now, regardless of however healthy I might be, the feds block my
      donations. . okay. . another bureaucratic snafu. -- j
