October's satire, "Pontignex".
Enjoy, or not.

--------------------

Pontignex
In Isto Signo Consumeris

The manufactured fanfare blares
with hyperbolic bray:
a social justice holy man,
soldier for the “third way,”
jesuit in franciscan robes,
evangel for the clime,
vicar of “neither marx nor Christ”
(yet both at the same time),
ideologue in fishing shoes
our hemisphere now becks.
Now comes dear leader's claim to pope.
Now comes the marxifex.

With manifesto rhetoric,
with scorn for Markets Free,
with “Holy See” now suffixed by
cyrillic “ccp,”
with standard new: in red for white,
in gold - a star for crown
and workers' tools for the crossed keys,
with Free Will upside-down,
with new religion for new world,
with all as its subjects,
now comes the melding of two faiths.
Now comes the marxifex.

The paparazzi palpitate,
reporters swoon and sway,
the ruling class play courtiers,
celebrities cliché,
tyrants queue up for their prestige,
congressmen weep and wring,
for when, at last, at the u.n.,
he'll kiss the new world ring.
But pews are empty, wallets close
as Country Class suspects
they've now got First Amendment case...
thanks to the marxifex.

    Be nice to illiterates day

    From the Greek

kak·is·toc·ra·cies. Government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens. Origin of kakistocracy. Greek kakistos, worst, superlative of kakos, bad; see caco– + –cracy.

I've had dogs that could bark better than these people can govern.

Yep, it would seem the end-time kakistocracy is in full swing and it's the ultimate fight for conscious human life. Makes one wonder if our biblical ancestors were right...

Rand spoke of the two types of danger as typified by the Mystic and the Hun. In other words, the religionist and the militarist. She was talking more specifically of the Dark Ages when religion was backed up by coercion She would probably be astonished by the rise of radical Islam which justifies their hideous acts by their religion
The Pope is pushing a socialist agenda and all that is missing is the ability to enforce it.

You have a way with words, and with The Pithy Phrase. Thank you for letting us read this.

I am amused (but don't know if I am supposed to be...) at the play on "CCP" for a rhyme when it is actually pronounced "SSR". Was this deliberate?

    The wisdom of the Possum,
    Grows greater all the time,
    His insights are so awesome,
    His conclusions are sublime.

When mystics claim to tell the truth,
    Their conclusions eschew fun,
    Remember at the voting booth
All that's missing is the Hun.

Just looking at carrot man Speaker Boo-hoo makes me want to weep.
Like the terms you can come with like "manifesto rhetoric," "paparazzi palpitate." and "new world ring."

"When do you ever see a congressman weep?"
Any time I look at John Boehnor.

Yes, the Catholic Church has always preached a form of socialism, but up until recently has stayed out of economic policy and focused mainly on cultural issues.

Thank you very much for catching that typo.
    And thanks for reading.

When do you ever see a congressman weep?
:-) Another good one Eud. Since the Church has a structure similar to Socialism and Communism the Popes views shouldn't be all that surprising.
At the end Country Class is spelled wrong. It says County Class.

Some background on the Latin used in this piece:

The Pope is called the "pontiff." Pontiff is short for "pontifex." Pontifex is Latin for "builder of the bridge" (between man and God). I titled the piece "Pontignex" which is mock Latin (close enough) for "burner of the bridge" (between the Catholic church and its parisoners). Throughout the piece, I also call the Pope "marxifex" which is mock Latin (again, close enough) for "builder of the marx".

The subtitle of the piece is a play on the Latin motto "In hoc signo vinces" - "in this symbol, you shall conquer", a reference to the cross. The Latin which I used was "In isto signo consumeris" - "in such a symbol, you shall be used up (consumed)", a reference to the hammer and sickle.
