While these indices are not perfectly accurate, I would argue that over the last several years, the US has been given too high a ranking.

Coupled with this some other posts on taking away money and replacing it with something else - which then becomes money . All money is is an acceptable expression of wealth and all wealth is is money in excess of current need.

So what do the dreaded they have planned when it comes to honoring an ATM withdrawal in Bangla Desh, Switzerland, Tuwa or Uruguay?Assuming they want to remain as part of the world currency market. Of course they could ban transferring any wealth across the borders in which case foreign trade wars, foreign aid, and loans to the US Government - just stopped and - intense isolationism begins. Back to the ATM machine. In what form does it deliver local money into your hot to trot and spend hands? Let's see I don't have a loca bank account WOW currency cash McDucks swimming pool! Or they could give you a local account and a local credit/debit card. Either way it's money. The US Government is in no position to dictate terms to anyone when it comes to fiscal policy much less to it's own citizens. I'll give you two words the biggest BLACK MARKET the country if not the world has ever seen. They'll need Elliott Ness cloned and magnified - and then some. that's assuming the Untouchables would work for the present government

I would have suspected a combination of the two and that may have held true over the last 10 to 20 years but for 2014 by itself I you are probably right.

Vague results allow for endless interpretation.

Would be nice to know if the decline of the US compared to others is mostly due to bad fedgov policy limiting freedom in America or to better results overseas. I suspect it's the former, but I'd like to know more.

During my class yesterday to chemical engineering freshmen, I teach a class about managing conflict as a teamwork exercise. In that class, I use an article that cites how conflict can be used to enhance creativity. Then I asked them why Americans tend to be the most creative people in the world. Some said the constitution, as expected. I then asked what is the source of our economic growth and creativity. One student correctly then said the patent system and inventions, and I gave Dale a shameless book plug. Thanks for allowing me to proof the book, Dale.

Not actual numbers but a direct reference from the article:

"These gains point to some good news: The world is significantly more economically free than it was three decades ago. Since 1980, overall world economic freedom has greatly improved, and it has increased again this year."

Incentives to achieve have declined, and dis-incentives to produce (government interference and taxation) are growing.
The fedgov (and the banksters who rule them) will prove again just how devastating socialism can be.

Haven't read the article completely yet, but do they rank the world overall as to whether economic freedom is improving or declining world wide?
