This story is strange. Medicare fraud is huge as is most government agencies like it. This guy has friends in high places and gave money to the right candidates. Why him?
Medicare is at least 30% fraud. A doctor (PhD, MD) I know that was at Stanford and SMU told me after he left The Church of Medicine that fat ass Medicare patients compete on what they can bill in the waiting room.
He used a system that was made for abuse, and he abused it. Even Medicare is fodder for abuse. Being an old guy, I see a lot of doctors and can spot an abuser right away, when after an exam and a prescription, they schedule a bunch of unneeded additional visits where they merely spend a minute with you and charge the gov.. a fast $75.
I can tell you from personal experience, Government agencies have a huge set of "Do not Touch" or " Not worth our time" decision factors. I am willing to bet he either: a. Failed to donate the right amount to the right person. b. Someone turned him in, and threatened to go public if they did not take action. I am currently in a battle with a con artist next door who had 200+ alpacas on 2.5 acres. The State has known about it for 3 years now, and done nothing but sent letters, and make deals. He lied to them about being poor but traded 1.3 million in stocks as of Oct 31, 2013. His BK papers had at least 20 perjurious statements in it, least of all was no mention of the stocks. The US Trustee (the "police" for the BK court) refuse to prosecute him because "there is only one creditor, so it's not worth our time". So a little perjury is ok, as long as it is only a few people hurt. Just like a little Medicare Fraud is ok as long as it isn't too big, OR someone doesn't turn you in. I will bet this will all disappear, he will be charged with fraud, and told to makes some small restitution and be given Comm service and it will all go away. Welcome to the US Justice system!
Very odd. this guy is a very small fish as Medicare fraud goes. Why bother with him when he is a "donor?" There are multi million dollar frauds just waiting to be investigated. Lazy or something else?
