Ok, I'm all for blowing this ass hat out of the water. Mind you, it's not really a diplomatic solution, but I don't think he's sailed into US maritime waters with an olive branch extended. His words would seem to belie that approach.

    Hello Bobhummel,
That is the question. How REALLY stupid are they? If they were to do something stupid would it still follow?

Having played games with these irrational Iranian forces since they committed an act of war by seizing our embassy in 1979, they are all hat and no horse, to use a cowboy metaphor. Our subs are absolutely invisible to these morons. but we can see everything they do beyond visual range, below,on or above the water. They will most likely break down and demand our help before this little exercise is over. They are WAY beyond their logistical support range. It really is a joke. Unfortunately, our military has to take it seriously, just in case they do something REALLY stupid.

The new mayor was elected by the deluded people there. That being said, I have friends there who did NOT vote for that freakshow, whom I would not wish that to happen to. And we aren't terribly far away. Ugh.

My brother in law already has, but his brother is still there. I don't know his circumstances or whether he is without the means to move out... With the new Mayor, one wonders how anyone can persevere except the progressives.

The Iranian ship did not cross into our waters so no military response, other than some kind of "reminder", was necessary.

However, if they were to cross that boundary then there's no reason not to sink the ship. If fact, if I were "king" I'd sink the ship and then pretend like it never happened. No announcement to the press, no communiques to the Iranian government, just silence.

My great hope is that if this is going to occur, it happen by running up the east river in NY. That way we rid ourselves of not only the UN but deB and several thousand useless but highly paid drags on society and economy.

We need to be more concerned about a smaller supposedly commercial ship or tug from Iran. Nuclear weapons can be fired from these to hit the coast. Another concern should be sleeper cells that already in the US that have come over the border or let in by illustrious Leader for education. The supreme commander of the Republican Guard has said they are already here. There has been one attack in April of last year on a power plant in Metcalf, Ca where there were almost 200 rounds shot to bring down Silicone Valley. We are doing our best to protect everyone else and not the our homeland.

    Iran:
    "Trust us!"
    "Believe we are peaceful!"
"Oh, we're here, in this public lot, threatening your neck with our knife and crowing about how we can kill you."

Anyone who doesn't see the psychological disconnect in these messages has got a very different mindset from the rest of us.

Where is Jules Verne's submarine when you need it ?! Maybe send out one of the Navies stealth experimental ships with no markings to sink them. What would be great is a unmarked marauder ships (any kind would do) like they had during the two world wars and sink the Iranian ships.

We should stop this nation building nonsense. We should provide an example of strength and prosperity and let them attain it on their own, We once had to fight our own revolutionary war. Let them do the same. We are only impoverishing ourselves to no avail.

That is a sad probability. The UN doesn't help. It is a one world order propaganda machine. Somehow I'm sure the spin would make your neck snap. Honestly, since we haven't had the guts to punish the populations that support terrorist regimes with real war like in the past, we have made war too tolerable. We have become paper tigers... If they are openly antagonistic and won't respect you and you no longer make them fear you, what can be done or expected?

Braggadocios nonsense. An annoying little fly that once bites, will be swatted. The action is clearly provocative and we should do many flyovers and shadow them with subs, just to let them know they had better not escalate beyond bravado. If an act of war is inflicted we should reply with total annihilation. I wonder if in this new world of terrorist nations that are acquiring weapons of mass destruction, if the buffer distance of long standing (12 miles territorial) to international waters is sufficient...

If they are sailing a ship towards our shore, they wouldn't need to "deliver it". They merely need to bring their ship close enough to cause whatever level of damage they want. If the US fires on the ship, even if it enters US waters, it will be portrayed by the international media as the US being the aggressor.

Thank you, we should never underestimate others potential. Stringing our troops all over the world is a needless at best when there are situations here that should be attended to. But that is the way they break the country and steal wealth from our grandchildren and future generations. Nation building is the progressive way to rule the world, but it does not work.

I like that. Hold a series of "maneuvers" and if anyone complains, respond with "draw when ready, pardner".

    Hello hoghead44,
Good point. While the Iranians may not yet be able to deliver an explosive nuclear bomb, they could release a dirty bomb. The story about the power plant and who is responsible is yet unresolved, but could easily be the work of terrorists. As long as our borders are unsecured we are in danger from within.

Apparently you haven't been paying attention over the past few decades. It isn't the fact of the presence of a navy off our shores. It is the fact of the presence of a navy from a regime that has a desire to kill us and/or our friends, which is the key characteristic.

Why do so many people here advocate the initiation of force?

If the presence of a Navy near territorial waters is considered force, allowing a "defensive" response, then the US military policing activities throughout the world would justify constant counter attacks by other countries/groups.
    - a good reason why we should curtail 90% of our military activity.

I think the book you are talking about is One Second After by William R Forstchen. It was based on a scientific study of the possibility of an EMP attack on the US. The study was overlooked because it was released the same day as the commission report on 9/11.
