My new favorite judge.

From the article: “It is not the court’s function to adjust the competing political and economic interests disturbed by the introduction of Uber-type apps,” he wrote.

The judges logic: "The judge said it was regulators' right to make that determination, and that e-hails are not the same as street hails made by lifting one's arm or whistling."

If ever there was a time to add "kicking and screaming" to the phrase "bringing into the 21st century", this is surely it.

The only solution to gerrymandering is proportional representation. All other so-called solutions fail under the relentless political chicanery of the political parties.

The gerrymandering in Florida is so bad that the citizens of Florida voted for a Constitutional amendment (to Florida's constitution) to force the politicians to draw district boundaries that had some rationality to them. One congressional district went from Jacksonville 100 miles south to a few neighborhoods in downtown Orlando while bypassing the northern suburbs of Orlando. Another district went from 50 miles north of me to 50 miles south of me, but didn't include most of my county. The Republican-controlled state lawmakers then violated Florida's sunshine laws in redrawing the boundaries before a Democrat congresswoman took them to court. In Florida, the corruption is a lot worse than it was fifteen years ago.

Yeah, because we know that gerrymandered partisan primaries and general elections funded by contributions from lawyers never leads to corruption.

I am so tired of people thinking change is a bad thing. The Earth and everything in it is constantly changing. (Including climate, but that's another story). Stagnation is the only alternative. So what if a new, cheaper, tech-based "taxi" business is created by thinking, intuitive people. So what if the "Taxi" business as we know it falls away and new and better things grow and change as well. This is still America right? Or a semblance thereof.

The taxi cab business still runs under the archaic systems that were obsolete since the Dark Ages. Uber is doing a great service by bringing the transportation business into the 21st century. Hopefully the judge's decision will stand.

Just when you think you are completely surrounded by the citizens of Wonderland, a voice of reason breaks through. Refreshing.

Imagine an industry dying as the world evolves. Gosh, that's never happened before.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of people filing complaints against Uber, when asked for their political stance, would answer "progressive." And do so with sincerity.

You're probably right about my search for corruption coming up empty this time. Judicial corruption is almost inherent because of the fact that so many judges are appointed.

There are many annoying popups that interfere with ones reading ability, but if you look carefully, they all have a way of cancelling them ( an X in the corner ), if you do it fast enough.

I noticed that the judge did not say that the present regulation was wrong - only that it couldn't be applied to Uber, since using a smart phone is not the same as hailing. This failure to condemn the regulation itself will probably now lead to a new regulation being passed, in order to make it harder for Uber to compete. Maybe requiring some new kind of "medallion" for electronically-hailed cabs.

The trial Court denied the requested injunctive relief and dismissed the action. The Plaintiffs have the right to appeal but no stay will be granted because it would have no practical effect. The status quo is the present state of affairs with the public able to hail cabs by the Uber app. Your search for corruption will come up empty this time.

Even the people who are quoted in favor protecting the cartel talk about medallions only as rent-seeking devices.

A welcome surprise. The taxi industry will just have to beat uber now. This brings my thoughts back to A is A.

How long do you think it will be before an appeals judge stays this decision, pending appeal? That depends on how long it takes to buy a judge off. That shouldn't take long.
