'“The ideas of economists and political philosophers, both when they are right and when they are wrong are more powerful than is commonly understood. Indeed, the world is ruled by little else. Practical men, who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influences, are usually slaves of some defunct economist.”
John Maynard Keynes
Based on this quote you might think that the two most important people in the U.S. presidential election are John Maynard Keynes and Friedrich Hayek. However, both of these men were influenced profoundly by two philosophers whose importance extends far beyond economics, Immanuel Kant and David Hume."

excellent. I hope you enjoy the book. Although this book is more "scholarly" than his first non-fiction, Dale's writing style is direct and he he doesn't waste any time getting to a point, which I appreciate. Of course, I'm his wife. :)

At my level of understanding of economics, and especially the application of the different philosophies to it, the most logical response to any question I might be able to ask would be "do some reading". Opportunities for that have been scarce lately and when I do have the chance I usually get distracted by this place. :) I do have a copy of DB's "The Source of Economic Growth", I hope to get to it soon. But I greatly enjoy the articles DB writes when I get the chance to read them and really enjoy the debates that arise. Seeing both sides of the argument helps it sink in, sometimes.

ah, a coward removed a point but wasn't willing to debate. Typical.
