Health insurance canceled. Reason-Did not provide proof of citizenship.

My sister in law attempted to use her prescription card today and was told it was not valid. She received the card less than 2 months ago so this seemed strange. My brother called the Insurance carrier and was informed the policy had been canceled because he failed to provide proof of citizenship when he purchased the policy. The person he spoke to said he probably failed to put his Social Security number on the form. No request was sent and he didn't get a letter informing him the policy was cancelled. He asked what he needed to do now and was told he needs to submit the following:

Copy of drivers license
Social Security number
Copy of birth certificate
Copy of most recent W2 forms

Obama became President with less information than this and ObamaCare is probably the reason behind this. What a mess.

Tech, they were hacked in all states, Intel uses them and Cigna, and now Anthem is buying Cigna. They gave us 2 years of credit monitoring, and with all the hackers getting away with it (instead of being shot for theft), I will have about 32,000 credit monitoring plans. They got my SSN from my employer, no vote involved on my part.

I was on the site Kipplingers and they referenced that "the average cost for health care of a 65 year old was $395,000.00 for a "healthy" 65 year old with all of the costs of Medicare.

technocracy Wait until you are old enough for Medicare if you are defensive about your SS #,, The Federal security crazies assign your Medicare I D # to you and it is .....YOUR Social Security number plus one letter at the end. About as secure and safe as "Pig Latin". How many people see your Medicare Card in a year if you have any intersection with health care, blood banks, prescriptions, x rays, MR I's, etc....Everyone involved has to see your card. It would be a good Monty Python or Bennie Hill skit if it weren't so stupid and dangerous. No wonder these idiots cause billions of dollars of fraud per no year. No other country has a health system as strong as Americas' because it survives such mis management and continues on. It's time for a Real Change...TOP down!!!

If they need proof of religion will I have to show my circumcision? When will they start using retinal scans? This stuff just frustrates the hell out of me. I got so angry yesterday at the TV, I almost bit the lip off my teacup.
I could see it if it were a polling place, but insurance is something bought and paid for regardless of citizenship. Or is it? Is this one of the results of Obamacare?

ERs have to treat anyone that comes in by law, insurance or not. Everyone has figured that out, so if they are uninsured or have crappy insurance, people go straight to the ER and stiff the hospital.

    I couldn't agree more.

A lot of our current problems in this segment originated in the late 70s - early 80s when HMOs became all the rage.

Expanded the administrative overhead tremendously, driving up cost.
"Low Cost out of pocket" so people use it more, even when not sick enough to go to the doctor prior. Driving up cost.
Shifted reimbursement of the physician to a per service model, meaning more tests, driving up cost.

Now its nearly impossible to find a PPO plan, the insurers don't like those.

If I remember right the CBO 25 year cost projections for Medicare were off by almost 1,000%. If the ObamaCare projections are off by that much then good bye USA.

I agree, but from the perspective of the person getting the subsidy they consider it free.

Free to them, the rest of us pay for it.

Which of course also causes them to use the service more driving costs up even faster.

It is a destructive cycle at all levels.

    Before Obamacare there was Insurance
Before there was insurance there was a free market.
In the free market I belonged to a Co-Op (voluntarily without penalties, taxes or restrictions). It cost me 1/43 of what I have to pay now (so that I do not have to sign over my entire estate to the government, but can leave it to those I choose to - my children). For Christmas they sent us all a check dividing up the money that was left over. There were no copays of any kind. The doctor got his check within a week, and I had $2million in coverage (probably about $20million in todays coverage).
The more government has intervened, the worse health care has gotten. I like the Gulch plan the best. No government intervention.

Nothing in life is free: Look into the "Medicaid Recovery Act" - Translation, seize all assets when you die tax or simply the Death Tax.

We have seen how poorly single payer performs in other countries. Why anyone would want that here other than to buy influence/read votes, I do not understand.

BUT!!!!! No photo id required to vote. A copy of your water bill or electric bill will be enough.

but what they always wanted was expansion of medicare into a single payer system. Unfortunately, single payer systems will be bankrupt because there is no competition

Obamacare is kind of a disaster all around. There would be pain on the part of some if its repealed, but it needs to be NOW

In the US, SS numbers are given to non-citizens who have been granted permanent residency. Strictly speaking, a person with a US birth certificate can have other citizenship.
I have just been reading about popular UK conservative politician Boris Johnson, the current Mayor of London. Some say he wants to be, among other things, president of the US, he was born in New York City.

The only thing on the list that actually proves citizenship would be a birth certificate. None of the others require citizenship, just supposedly a legal right to be in the country.

One payer was the left's goal from the get go.
Crashing the system so that it has to be replaced is what they are doing.

I think the citizenship proof is only a requirement if the plan is purchased through the exchanges. If you go direct to the insurance company, it should not be an issue.

I refused to give up my SSN for my health insurance. I've had the same carrier, albeit with different plans, for decades. Given the artificial barriers they put in place on insurance at the states previously, you had no choices.

Good thing considering Anthem/Blue Cross was hacked in my state
