For a brief moment, at the top of the hill...

At 5:34 ET this morning, I reached the summit of the hill known as "50".
Immediately after that, I began the descent.

As I continue along, I can not think of a better group of people with whom to work, trade, converse, argue, and man the philosophical and cultural barricades.

We have something special here.
What a gift to be part of it.

Officially "Over the Hill",

Rick

Ascent, not descent. Now you climb the mountain - UP UP UP!

Yeah. That is me...At 62 I am still startled that I do not see a 20 or 30 year old me in the mirror. I have not had to stop doing anything that I enjoy (though I will admit to taking just a bit longer to recover).

When you are young you are young, Then you mature and stay that way until the day the first social security check shows up. That makes you middle aged. Middle age is everything between youth and oldth. The rest I can't tell you about. Middle Age is taking up too much of my time. Enjoy the adventure!

If you are over-the-hill you are probably accelerating!
Proud to boast that I beat you to it by 7 years and 2 weeks!
    Congratulations anyway...!

yessir -- I have been over the hill for 16 years now, and more .......
I'm the nut who wore the tie which read "This Is What 40 Looks Like"
and then passed it on to a close friend. . I was told that wearing
that tie on my birthday, at work, was an act of either surrender
or stupidity. . Hey, I thought it was a graduation, Rick!!! -- j

Congrats Rick, although 'over the hill' has too many negative meanings for me at 60. I agree with all the others as to acceleration. Never lose your enthusiasm or curiosity. Regards.

    Congratulations, young feller! : )

At 72, I still look in the mirror in the morning and see that 18 year old kid wondering what the hell is going on. And often I feel just like that kid, amused, scared, and hopeful. And far more centered now.

Galt's Gulch is my refuge of sanity in an increasingly crazy world.

    Welcome to the bright side!

HI Rick, trust me as one who after the fifty assent just kept on climbing. The view gets better, the terrain I survey get larger and the command of knowledge improves with constant work. Its still fun to climb and ski meaning work is followed by exhilaration. So I think you are in maybe a notch between great summits. Sort of like the South Col. There is no way but up.

    Enjoy the climb.

    Happy "Over the hill" birthday!
Once you reach 68 as I have, you'll know much moreabout the slide down.
For one thing, as you look back, it all goes faster and faster and faster.
