Conservatism (Another Obituary for the Idea)

Privatize. The conservatives use the verb in relation to education, shipping, pensions, transportation, utilities, and the list goes on. Privatize. Publicizing privatization is what this political faction advocates. But these same place a law on private consensual actions because it "corrupts" the collective moral sphere. These same argue that intelligent design must be taught in schools, that evolution cannot be taught, that certain books should be banned, that abstinence is the best form of birth control, that life begins at conception, that intrinsicism is the governing philosophical structure of the universe. And that these same men are enlightened such that enforcement of their morals is a (Kantian) dutiful obligation to which these morals belong. Act according to these obligations, and reap the rewards, say these. Give up your liberty to keep you property, say these softly. Radicals for capitalism know that capitalism is based on individual rights, that political defense of these rights is the moral imperative of a proper government, that there are certain rights and no others, that rational self interest is the basis of political and economic growth. The conservative, on the other hand, denies your mind, your objective sense of right and wrong, of choice, all wrapped in a series of revealed statements that train you to seek their perfection and not your own. The conservatives are the second handers of the spirit. (The liberals, the second handers of the physical.) I trust neither, and I urge you who read this to deny any nullification of your right to use your own mind to do science, art, or medicine. Privatize what then? Science? No, say these conservatives, control it for "national security" purposes. Art? No, nude images could be disseminated, control it according to "decency". Medicine? No, if the inherited terminal disease of a fetus is discovered, it would encourage abortion, and all life, living and potential, has rights, control it with abortion laws and censorship. What then, is free under the conservatives? Economics? Not if the rights and the free exchange of ideas are hampered by their efforts. Conservatism denies the source of wealth (ideas and consequent action) through restrictions it imposes and thus upsets the flow of ideas to the physical world. Privatize, you say more softly? Yes, please. Let's privatize economic decisions and let's privatize all the rest, too. Let's privatize for the sake of science, art, medicine. But when John Galt creates his engine, don't claim it is for "public good" that you extricate it. When Ayn Rand writes Atlas Shrugged, don't say you agree with most of it and discard citizens' rights in certain "special cases". When a general cure for cancer is developed, don't control production for "fair pricing". Privatize, and expect to be privatized. Your privileged political position was not meant to exist in the first place.

" ..., and all life, living and potential, has rights, control it with abortion laws and censorship."

If potential life has rights, then are masturbation and condoms a criminal act in violation of those rights? If so how would these rights be enforced?

I have come to the conclusion that many who call themselves "conservative" are actually statists. Check it out. You'll notice it too...

"Inherited terminal disease of a fetus..." aside, I like it.
"Privatize it all " even Rand disagreed with that. For capitalism to work you have to be able to enforce rights
