Reagan knew better than to put the U.S. into untenable situations, so he did not draw artificial and unenforcible 'red lines,' and instead he left an open door for negotiation. Remember the Beruit Bombing? Reagan pulled out rather than double down. He was willing to talk to the Soviets and as a result he helped reduce tensions between the worlds superpowers.
Reagan used, or threatened to use, the military rarely. His little dust-up with Grenada was a joke, and his bombing of Libya in response to Lockerbie was a travesty of justice (recent scholarship has concluded that the Libyan government most likely had nothing to do with the Lockerbie bombing...but a little girl in Tripoli lost her life over it anyway). Compared to the reckless militarism of both Bushes, Clinton, and Obama, Reagan was a weak kneed peacenik (may we have more of them, please!)
IMO, The "Donald" is a thin skinned TYRANT. And...while he constantly berates politicians (mostly well deserved) ...he now is one. He made a fool of himself and I think we will see more of that as they move through this process. While he can probably buy a third party nomination, I predict he will never be the GOP guy. If he does go third party, maybe Rand Paul could go Libertarian party. That might give the election back to the GOP.
That sounds good, but Reagan did what he said, and Iran wasnt going to win out fighting with him. Libya got the message after pushing Reagan, and we really never heard from them again after that for a long time. Obama draws lines in the sand and then backs off- Putin laughs at him. Putin wouldnt laugh at Reagan and probably would have never attacked Crimea and Ukraine
If Trump as president only did two things, I would be happy- (1) Tell things the way he sees them in whatever language he wants (tell us the emperor has no clothes if that is true) , (2) Stick up for the USA 100% of the time
Megyn Kelly sold out somewhere to the big business interests at FOX. Hearing an answer to her questions for Trump werent going to be helpful no matter how he answered them. We want to find out how he would handle leading our country in the future. I will vote for Trump, Ben Carson, or Rand Paul- whichever gets on the ballot. My guess its going to be Bush vs Biden when it comes ddown to it. Hillary is dead in the water.
So Obama is "presidential"? He cant negotiate buying a taco from a street vendor, let alone with IRAN. We want someone who will tell us like he sees it, and not only in some carefully politically correct way. I am tired of political correctness.
Polishing an image= political correctness. Our country is too far gone at this point, so we will get another pablum president who will sell us out and destroy our dollar. I have given up on expecting anything to change for the better during my lifetime. That being said, I will vote for Trump, Rand Paul, or Ben Carson- whoever makes it to the voting booth.
Its obvious FOX wanted to discredit Trump for their own reasons. My view of Kelly went down a lot when she asked her questions. We are hiring a president to administer the country and protect it. Most politicians just feed us platitudes and feed their own interests and the interests of their backers. I am tired of that. Trump tells it like he sees it, and thats OK WITH ME.
Iran released the hostages on the day Reagan was inaugurated because they were angry with Carter for giving aid to their brutal dictator, the Shah. The Carter administration had completed all of the pre-work in getting the hostages released, but the Iranians stalled for weeks in completing the transaction. The CIA opposed a second military attempt to release the hostages because they knew the captives would be released after Carter was gone. It wasn't fear of Reagan that motivated the Iranians, it was hatred for Carter.
Apparently it's quite easy. All you have to do is question him sharply or hint that you disagree with him. I can't think of anyone else who is both a bully and is amazingly thin skinned. An odd combination.
Specific detailed answers? You must be kidding. Take for instance his assertion that the government of Mexico is deliberately aiding in the illegal immigration of violent criminals into the U.S. The closest he has ever come to a "detailed" explanation of this absurd claim was the other night under direct questioning when he stated that he had been told this by unidentified members of the Border Patrol. Some details.
I've been really warming up to Carly Fiorina, who also said of late that Trump has no excuse for whining way he reacted to Kelly. If ever Trump debates a Dem-a-ling, I hope he comes prepared for all the PC "war on women" bull crap that's going to be dumped all over him. One thing The Donald succeeded at in that debate: Showing all how to get his goat.
He's going to have to learn to control his mouth if he wants to be President. It's one thing to be blunt and say what you mean, it's another thing to speak without thinking.
I can't believe he deliberately decided to trigger the latest 'blood' controversy. Only start fights on purpose.
As a former journalist,I feel an attempt at being objective is part of being professional, even if it kills you. Megyn Kelly failed this first rule, it was not her TV show, it was a debate. Trump's attack on being PC hit a good note with me, I am sick of this PC business, but I would find it hard to vote for him, too much liberal past there. Megyn Kelly has lost my respect, esp. after viewing her old Howard Stern interview, no class there. To have her plut in to replace the disinvited Trump as a speaker at the upcoming event, is just as stupid as it gets. Maybe Megyn really wants Hillary to wind.
His repeating offense comments is torpeoding his chances. The first time it was cute and refreshing to see somoene not playing to the PC crowd, but now it's like a 3 year old repeating a cuss word over and over for attention. NOT presidential.
You would think with the capital he wants to put into it he could hire someone that could, well, not make him PC but polish his image. As it is, if it keeps going the way he is, he's toast. And if he doesn't recognize that, he's lost.
Let's look at some history. And the difference between a weak pathetic sorry excuse for a president who by the way give good speeches, and talks with political correctness.
During Jimmy Carter's Presidency, 53 Americans were held hostage by the camel humping towel heads. January 20, 1981 when Ronald Regan was sworn in, THAT SAME DAY Iran released ALL the hostages. NO war, NO troops, No rescue missions. WHY?
They were terrified of Regan and KNEW EXACTLY what he would do.
When Khadafi claimed responsibility for the bombing, Regan almost immediately bombed all his secret hiding places, his palace and killed one of his kids in the attack.
From that day until Obama got elected Khadafi kept his mouth shut and stayed in his borders and kept to himself.
Sep 23, 2009 - Muammar el-Qaddafi, pokes his head up and starts his crap again. WHY because of a weak president.
I do not care if Megyn Kelly's feeling got hurt, she wants equal rights, then don;t bitch when you get slapped back. BTW, Megyn Kelly is trying to take some kind of moral high ground. Listen to her interview with Howard Stern then tell me what a paragon of Virtue she is.

With me at least, Trump did himself some good by attacking political correctness (AKA professional-victim identity politics) and those who practice it. I hope he will have the courage to follow through and promise repeal of the idiotic "sexual harassment" rules in labor law, as well as the fake-rape rules being imposed on universities by the Dept of Education.
It's time to re-legalize all forms of discrimination (except by government).
Rightly so: personal questions/statements by Megyn (particularly) were inappropriate. As Brook noted, this is a forum for a discussion of issues, and questions should ask for candidates' political principles.
However, Trump hurts himself with distasteful comments. He is on borrowed time.
He attacked the messenger, I would have asked the same question. In reality it was not really inappropriate to ask Sara Palin what papers she reads either. It's better to bring out his overt reactions in a debate with a reporter than to do it while engaged with a another world leader. From his late reactions and bullheadedness in attacking Megyn Kelly, I sure wouldn't want him representing me. I feel he would just be another Obama representing us. We sure can weed out someone better, we've got a lot of time left.
Really skilled narcissists, like Bill Clinton, can exhibit phony empathy, sincerity, and likeability, recognizing when abusive language and threats aren't going to work. The lousy ones, like Obama and Trump, are all ego and arrogance, firmly believing that their innate force of personality has no need to tolerate criticism. A narcissist like Trump either fails to recognize, or doesn't care, when the line of control has been crossed, and they've switched roles from winner to loser. I suspect that there are deals Trump lost when he crossed that line in business, but he would just chalk them up to a "fail" on the other party. Narcissists that don't have the Clintonian skills can't change their stripes, so there's no chance Trump will even try to change an approach that has made him a billionaire.
Being the front runner, he should expect the most and toughest questions. Kelly's war on women question was, however, inappropriate, particularly as a first question. There's no doubt that FOX took up the reins to "out" Trump, since it was pretty obvious that the other candidates weren't about to.
This direct attack, and make no mistake the first two questions Megyn used were specifically designed to do nothing but torpedo Trump and make the other candidates look better.
Could Trump has answered better, sure. BUT, he spoke the truth and did not back down.
You want to know Trumps specific detailed answers refer to all his interviews. They are easily referenced.
