Part of what grinds me is how the "decision makers" run and hide when asked for comment. A "board" or a "council" is made up of people. Just once I would like for one of these lunatics to step forward and give an explanation as to how this kind of decision was made.

The Soviets are thrilled. The seeds (infiltrators) they planted in the 1930's are finally producing fruit. Poisonous fruit and it's in the public school system & universities.

If people are present in the United States and attending school at a public school, they should not feel uncomfortable at celebrating the country they are living in, after all it is providing them an education, protecting their lives and providing all of the constitutional protection any other resident of the country has, citizen, resident or visitor.
In some cases they are not treated as well as possible, but those are relatively rare and usually handled by social pressure to be good and treate guests well.
If you as a visitor/guest in this country don't like us celebrating America the don't attend the celebration.
If you are offended by what goes on in this country, there is a easy solution. You know you don't have to stay. If you are a child you are stuck for a while, but in a relatively short period of time your parents option will be open to you.

Some foreigners, including some Mexicans I have talked to, "get it" and understand why someone should be proud to be an American.

Ayn Rand not only "got it" but defended America and its rational values whenever possible. She could have stayed in Soviet Russia, but chose to be an American. At the conclusion of one of her last talks at Boston's Ford Hall Forum she said, "God bless America!" She of course was not being religious, but was invoking the sentiment felt by many Americans (and pro-American foreigners) or any or no religion upon hearing those words.

If I were a student at that school I would dress in my very best clothes, and wear an oh-so-tasteful red-white-and-blue necktie. I would probably do so for a week. If told my clothing was inappropriate, I would continue, waiting to be expelled. If expelled, I would make sure I appeared on TV--wearing my best clothes, of course.

I think a student [or adult] should dress in red, white & blue layers - so that she could say "sure, I'll take my sweater off!" to reveal more R, W & B, and so on.

Publicly, of course. These morons want to hide under their rocks and commit their evil deeds when no on can see them.

And when she was down to her red, white & blue skivvies, it would be time to say, "I know you're objecting to the red, white and blue --- but I need to tell you I have the American flag tattooed on my [choice of body part].. I wonder what would happen then? hee, hee, heee

      Replying to myself...
My wife has a different necktie suggestion: At the complaint that my tie is inappropriate, I should rip it off and pull out of my pocket a red hammer-and-sickle tie. "Okay, this must be what you want."

This is an offensive, disgusting display of Anti-American sentiment. That’s exactly what it is and it needs to be given a label as such. These “Progressives” love labeling things then let them wear this one. Anti-American.

I am glad that our little school room has an American flag hanging in it and our 6 year old pledges her allegiance everyday.

This is just another, blatant example of how our country is and has been bending over backwards to accommodate illegal alien invaders, who don't want to become, culturally, what this country is all about, they just want to sop up the gravy.

khalling; it's not that they hate this country. They hate any country and any national pride, and particularly, the US because it has been the most successful up through the 50's in holding back the drive for Marxist Utopia. And it's not just that they are teaching and administrating in the schools, they are setting the criteria throughout the entire education system - laws, regulations, grants, instruction guidelines, textbook materials, teacher education and certification, administrator education and certification, classroom materials (propaganda), on and on. And they are in every classroom of this nation and are controlling the battle space.

Make no mistake, their goals haven't really changed since the late 1800's. A world governance and what they envision as a technocrat controlled humanity. We make the mistake of concentrating on only the immediate, 'what's in our face' rather than the institutional drivers and machinations that have led to the immediate issue. Yes, it's important to show our children a win for our side once in a while, but we're in a multi-generational war for the very survival of a society in which a rational man of the mind can exist, much less thrive.

Each and every event of this type needs someone that will trace back to the initiator, the when, and the how this particular issue moved into the particular school and not only push back, but then push forward to the removal and even re-instruction of every participant. Or start another school. Home instruction is important, but each of those motivated home instructors could have a much greater impact by helping to provide an alternative source of education for the community.

It need not be on overly patriotic or christian identification, but rather an emphasis on educational results. One community based program I was interested in was, I believe, California (of all places) in which parents in the community could actually take over the running of a school if the school had failing grades in some particular criteria, (probably state). I've not heard much about the program in the last couple of years or so, but it struck me as a truly significant plan.

But regardless, until we recognize the true extent of the war we're in and the actual faces of our enemy, we lose.

If something like this happens at the school your kids attend tell the administration and the school board you are withdrawing them and why. This will get their attention.

Put your kids in private school, an online charter school, or teach them at home. Public schools continually teach this stuff. You risk having kids that will growup to be liberal (socialist??) adults and may never outgrow it.

The admin and school board will not care a whit. They still get your tax dollars and don't have to handle your kids. If every child had a voucher that they could "spend" wherever they wanted on education, then you would have the attention of the admin and school board. As it is, they don't care.

I was an educator for four decades.
Now I home-school my own daughter.
You have NO idea how bad it is in some ways.
And there is ALWAYS an excuse.
Not justice - just an excuse.
And don't you dare mention the imbalance - you do not have the same protections from unions if you aren't liberal.

        Do not become a teacher.
They advertise that they need new teachers.
        That's a lie.
They need new inexpensive teachers with little education so they don't have to pay for the extra college or years o experience.
The more expensive teachers they remove as soon as possible.

Every year I'd watch them ask, "How many teachers have been here ten years! How many five years! How many..." and it occurred to me that if the numbers shown were in a business environment, the entire staff would be up in arms asking, "What the heck happens to all the people who disappear? Why such a huge attrition rate?"
But the teachers just gloss over it.

It is almost amusing how the liberal mind works. They seem hell-bent on self destruction by denigrating the very thing which is their salvation. In this case, as in many others, Michael Savage is right when he says, "Liberalism is a mental disorder."

I just heard that the Sheriff of Larimer County stood outside the school in his dress uniform waving an American flag on the day they wanted to celebrate America day. Good for him!

Sheriffs, God love em! I do. The ones here are among the first to arrive at any event which shows pride in America. Good for Larimer County that they have a man they can respect in the office of Sheriff.

Campus and school district officials said they rejected the use of " 'Merica" because it "is a slang term that is often used in a negative stereotypical way to describe life in the U.S."

Fort Collins High School Principal Mark Eversole sent a letter to parents on Tuesday, stating that the school would rename the first day of its spirit week "America Day" in response to protests from some in the community and a "misinterpretation of our intentions."

"We were surprised that our community interpreted our actions as anti-American," Eversole said wrote in the letter. "We are a proud public school in America and support many activities to celebrate our great nation."

Thanks for picking up on the slang term sinch. However, the kids were told it wouldn 't be fair to the kids from other nationalities. They leave that part out. The kids were adopting the slang term in the good natured way slang comes to be interpreted often. Starts out negative and over time takes on a benevolent meaning. Personally I don 't care for it. btw The Denver Post is notorously progressive.

Guess I should just be more straightforward. Starnes is notorious for fudging facts and even downright lying...and he gets caught most of the time. He doesn't solve problems...he causes them and it makes conservatives look just like the liberal media paints them to be. I'd rather be without his help.

The administration said that they didn't want to "offend any other nationality." That doesn't have anything to do with the slang term "'Merica" as if it did, then they would merely have changed the word. Such bogusness from the haters when they get caught.

Perhaps, when these kind of events come to light, a email and phone call campaign to the offending schools administrators, boards and districts is in order. Not just from within the district, from all over the country. A little pressure might make others think twice before it happens again. Then again, maybe its just me who thinks it will make a difference.
Anyone have the email address, etc. for the particular district, school, board, etc. in this article?

This is not over yet. Last year we Coloradans recalled two liberal members of the state senate over their gun grab legislation that they ran through in a monkey court. A 3rd senator (that sponsored that legislation with the help of Micheal Bloomberg and Joe Biden) was about to be recalled this past fall. But she resigned before the recall election could be held so that our idiot savant governor could appoint a replacement and delay the entire recall process. I expect some push back in Fort Collins. It is home to Colorado State University - primarily an engineering and agriculture school. But they have enough socialist getting useless BA degrees in 14th century water colors with an emphasis in blue to make it possible for school administrators to think they can get away with this PC BS.

I hope the kids who asked for the day in the first place, PLAY IT UP! Go whole hog, red white and blue. Wrap themselves in the American flag, to show that they are proud of our nation. It makes me so angry. Why would showing pride in the country you are living in be offensive to anyone. If it offends them, leave! God bless the kids who started this and keep up the good fight.
