Wow. Some of the dickishness that I previous said was more common among libertarians and Ayn Rand fans may actually just be the TV way of talking to one another. I don't have cable TV, and I don't go to video news that often, so I rarely see this. NO ONE in my world speaks to their colleagues the way these people do. It's so ironic that they're talking about this guy who is controversial for getting people fired up, and they're doing it in a way calculated to get people fired up. It's all crap IMHO.
I don't understand what he's apologizing for? Questioning boldly? Digging up and revealing some truths? Speaking freely? Being engaging? If he's to blame for dividing this country then I will thank him... usually when a person wakes up to reality they realize they have to make some choices and decide which side they are on...if more people would wake the hell up we might gain some footing. He has nothing to apologize for in my opinion. (Except the lederhosen.)
I think he just wished he would have said it nicer. It's easier to convince some one you are right if you don't call them an idiot everyday. But it still wouldn't of worked, if he was nicer no one would have even listened.
I dunno. One of the things that makes Milton Friedman's arguments so incredibly persuasive is the polite and gentile way in which he presents them. His gentleness is so effective, in fact, that he can even get an open Marxist to admit that Capitalists create jobs and improve the economic well being of society.
Had Milton Friedman been rude and obnoxious in his argument, and started calling names, his opponent would have only dug his heels in further, and no consensus or agreement would have been reached, even though Milton Friedman was right. Remember, the purpose of argumentation and debate should not be to create division by attacking those who didn't "choose the right side," but rather to achieve unity by gently persuading those who are misguided or misinformed. As the saying goes, a house divided against itself cannot stand.
Not if you're dealing with someone overly sensitive...and too many are. Hell some people would say you're being rude if you said obama is bad for freedom. We're back to the pussification of America topic again. It's all related. Sissy cry babies who can't handle the truth no matter what words are used to tell it. They want only 'nice' words and warm fuzzies.
