I guess you missed Lincoln's suspension of habeas corpus, jailing hundreds of northern publishers for disagreeing with Lincoln's oppressive policies, and ordering the arrest of Chief Justice Tanney. Lincoln also refused to even meet southern leaders and discuss a peaceful compromise, instead preferring to force a military confrontation he knew would lead to war.

As near as I can tell JWB was a southern sympathizer who was working with a small cabal to assonate Lincoln and several cabinet members to prolong the war and ensure a southern victory by causing turmoil in the North.
