Do children walk away from school and family life with an uplifted sense that the mind is competent at discovering reality? Good question.

Most children are taught in school that the right answer is irrelevant, that school is boring and has no connection with reality, and that they cannot figure anything out by thinking about it. In fact, thinking is not important - feelings are.
And then they're at a time when many things in their lives are changing, and they have to made decisions, and they don't know how, and they don't know how to find out.
    poor things.

"But, as Shorter himself points out, the more advanced medications we develop, and the more we prescribe them, the more suicides we’re seeing with teenagers over the last twenty years."
    ...you're welcome.

I worry that medications designed to reduce anxiety also reduce inhibitions.

They alter the mind. I have a few close friends who have had their wives really go off the deep end on these meds. 1/4 women in the US is now on them, too - at least. Suicide is an expected reaction, too. It's no surprise to those who make these meds, and it shouldn't be to any doctor prescribing them.

The rate of teen suicide has risen, but the rate for young women has risen much faster than for young men. I suspect that we are asking young girls to be women much too soon. They also learn the world is out of their control.. so they despair.

Their bodies will never be the perfect form they see on TV. They despair of ever having control of their own lives.
