Well, I'm sure somehow this is Bush's fault of course. I'm in no way saying the gov't was part of this (though there are the usual 'conspiracy theory' sites that do), but IF they were, some reasons could be:

A dress rehearsal for declaring marshal law nationwide? To see how easy it is to get people to allow officials into their homes without a search warrant? To frighten more people to give up rights for safety?

Otoh, this gives so much ammo to those demanding their rights to arms for defense we may see the gun control legislation quiet down for a while. We also know why DHS needs 1.2 billion rounds, they are horrible shots apparently.

I have noticed that the news is really pushing that everyone in Boston is panicked. Really? I find that hard to believe. What I don't find hard to believe is that it wall to wall coverage with no facts. Why give these guys (and other nut jobs to come) all the hype. The whole purpose of a terrorist act is the scare people into changing their lives. If they're ignored you remove that element.
