I thought I would mention a recent event for me some might find interesting. While out on a fishing trip about 300 miles off the coast of Baja 1.5 years ago I launched a note in a newly emptied wine bottle one night. Well, I got a call on Christmas eve from a gentleman in the northwest who happened to be vacationing in Saipan when he found my bottle on a very remote beach. The beach is known as "Old Man by the Sea" and can be seen on Google Earth. It was one of those trivial, yet exciting events for me. He sent me photos of them holding the note on the beach and some shots of the beach. I have launched a couple similar notes over the years but this is the only one that was found. I am going to make a little map, include the photo of the note and frame it for my office wall. This bottle traveled south, then west through the Marshall Islands, then up the Marianas to Saipan. It was a long journey! Maybe I'm a geek, but I find it to be pretty cool.
