Hermann Goering, Hitler's Reich-Marshall at the Nuremberg Trials after WWII:

"Naturally, the common people don't want war, but after all it is the leaders of a country that determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag people along whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders.  This is easy.  All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.  It works the same in every country."

I don't care how well I am doing, if I witness such things I will not be silent! That should be one of the lessons from that atrocity.

It was blamed on the Communists so the Nazis achieved rah rah patriotism. Most Germans were doing very will economically so they didn't rock the boat or question until it became life threatening not to have a stiff right arm raised.

While the German government turned a blind eye...
"On November 9 to November 10, 1938, in an incident known as "Kristallnacht", Nazis in Germany torched synagogues, vandalized Jewish homes, schools and businesses and killed close to 100 Jews. In the aftermath of Kristallnacht, also called the "Night of Broken Glass," some 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and sent to Nazi concentration camps..."

Internment of Japanese Americans during WWII is the closest event I can compare in the last century...

Huh. Whitefish is about an hour north of me. Funny to that about 2 hours ago I was talking to a friend about Sheridan and she was telling me how nice it is there.

Speaking of weird coincidences, the other day when you asked if I was going to be in WY soon, I received a call on my cell, originating out of Whitefish, MT.... Don't know who it was, no message was left....

I have no concrete evidence of anything. There are just to many things that are so similar and I don't believe in coincidences. What would you consider an equivalent event?

I think the patriotism part is key. It goes to the other conversation we were having regarding we. and the idea of thousands reciting something at the same time. Because it's patriotism that one will use as a defense for spying on his neighbor

That quote says it all. When the people are unarmed they are unlikely to protest when facing the armed. Especially under color of law.
