    My reading of Winston Churchill's History of the English Speaking Peoples, the chapter dealing with the US civil war, gave me a most uncomfortable time- I had to reconsider what I thought I knew. Were the myths and the conventional history correct, or Churchill's account? It comes out after further study that the popular stories about Lincoln and the reasons for the war are myths and Churchill is correct.

    Yes, and then they demonize the symbols of the defeated people.

    That is the reason the confederate flag is so "hated" by the statists.

    The gall of anyone to think that they could defy the federal government and leave the union because they were being taxed in order to line the pockets of looters!

    Wars are almost always fought over some combination of power and money, and our very own War Between the States was no different. In the end, though, the winners get to write the history.
