I'm eager to try it. How can I have worked with the stuff for 15 years, no counting college and hobbyist, and never heard about this?

Hmmmm, I've used the meter, but always wondered what the "bad" threshold is. Looking forward to testing it wth two batteries from the same manufacturer.
