Dennis Hof owns business licenses for the majority of brothels in Nevada. He discusses his business model in the above interview with Reason. And here is his presentation to Oxford University. (Should be a TEDx talk IMO(: ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAW3KSXv8...

careful; your description of Lillian is starting to sound like mine.

Nevertheless, as far as the sex act was concerned, Lillian was trading Hank value for value.

No, I think what makes a difference is that her character was created by Ayn Rand.

Intent generally or in a specific marriage?
There are many people who spend most of their time trying to destroy others maliciously. It gives them power and makes them feel smart if they can psychologically or physically control another:The professor who purposely obfuscates the truth and grades accordingly, the politician who votes for regulations he knows will harm those regulated, the President sworn to uphold the Constitution who in fact tries to tear it down.

I disagree. She also had the perversion of getting satisfaction for undermining Hank at every turn. She was not unhappy, she was an operator.

How far can the school reach? This was off campus and on his own time. I really think at my high school he would have been the coolest kid in our class. I'm tired of people hiding behind this excuse of "we are still investigating". They are just too pathetic to speak out.

Which reminds me of the scene in AS where Hank and Lillian are "romantically engaged" and Lillian (perfectly portrayed by Rebecca Wisocky) looks up at Hank and asks, "Done, dear?" That is prostitution under the guise of marriage. Lillian provides the physical release that Hank requires, and Hank provides the material goods that Lillian requires.
btw - I hope Rebecca is back - anyone seen the cast list?

Men in general can see sex as a physical act and most women see it as an emotional act. Dagny is difficult to figure because she is so strong. Do you think the fact her character was created in 1957 makes a difference?

well, Midas is a fictional character of Rand's. She presents him as moral under Objectivism. So the objectivist view would be pertinent I would think, flanap.

this is kinda interesting. db read a study where they questioned men and women on their levels of promiscuity. They found that men on average were more promiscuous than women. BUT, if you have a larger group of promiscuous men than women who are they promiscuous with? Turns out there is a small group of women who are VERY promiscuous compared to men overall.

Are you talking intent or practice? He screwed Lillian; Lillian only put up with it for the nice things his money could get for her.

"If a man could satisfy his sexual desire without the complications of a relationship that would mean more time to work on whatever drives them."

    It's called masturbation.

    lol
Rand would disagree, but I don't know that I do. If I were Dagny, I think I'd not have sex unless I desired someone that I knew. maybe this a man/woman kind of thing or not. I can't imagine having sex with someone I had no interest in knowing. Most men I know would disagree with me on this point. But in my experience, not most women.

I think gulchers would use this service. Many producers become singular of purpose. Their drive leaves little time for relationships. If a man could satisfy his sexual desire without the complications of a relationship that would mean more time to work on whatever drives them.

winterwind referred to this quote yesterday and I think it's appropriate here-
“Love is blind, they say; sex is impervious to reason and mocks the power of all philosophers. But, in fact, a man’s sexual choice is the result and the sum of his fundamental convictions. Tell me what a man finds sexually attractive and I will tell you his entire philosophy on life. Show me the woman he sleeps with and I will tell you his valuation of himself. No matter what corruption he’s taught about the virtue of selflessness, sex is the most profoundly selfish of all acts, an act which he cannot perform for any motive but his own enjoyment–just try to think of performing it in a spirit of selfless charity!–an act which is not possible in self-abasement, only in self-exaltation, only in confidence of being desired and being worthy of desire.” Atlas Shrugged
