Hi jnnrd54. I'm all for equal and counter-boycotting if that's your act of principle and strategy. But please be careful with your language--it isn't censorship. Do you acknowledge or do we need more discussion? (I'll try to come back for updates--the website isn't great for specific notifications).
I'm not suggesting anything. I'm stating facts I have observed myself over the course of the last three years. I stand by every word written above. Your cited source is lumping together the significant number of non-citizens convicted and sentenced to short terms for illegal entry (a misdemeanor) with violent criminals (e.g. rapists and murderers) sentenced to long terms in order to make it look like the federal prisons are full of violent illegal aliens.
Okay, let's remember what we are talking about here. Trump is complaining about the supposed fact that many rapists are illegally crossing the border into the U.S. from Mexico. I read you as agreeing with him on this issue. I questioned whether there are significant numbers of convicted rapists entering the country illegally. You responded by ignoring the convicted part and simply asserting that lots of actual rapists are entering illegally. So be it. I asked for a source. Your cited sources focus on rapes and other assaults committed in Mexico during the well known long and dangerous trip from Central America to the northern border of Mexico and the U.S. Where is the evidence that the rapists are then crossing the border themselves? That's what Trump is so concerned with. It's safe to assume Trump does not give a hoot about Guatemalan women being raped in central Mexico by Mexican thugs (or police) who never cross our border. If he is concerned about that he has never mentioned it. You are curious as to why I question the assertion that enormous numbers of violent criminals are currently crossing illegally. It is because I have personally seen thousands of illegal immigrants processed, convicted and sentenced at our southern boarder. The number of those people having prior violent criminal histories is very very small. The number of allegations by female crossers that they have been raped by male crossers or human smugglers is infinitesimal when compared to all crossers. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but to make an issue of it in the manner Trump has done does a disservice to all those people, including you and me, who are trying to figure out how to deal with this concerning phenomena. It takes everyone's eyes off the ball in order to score a cheap political point.
The evidence is not debatable (see links below). It might not be a PC position to take, but facts are stubborn things. I'm curious why you doubt the violent crime/criminals we're letting in through our southern border.
Comprehensive study linked below (see page 15) plus link to second story indicating 60% number has increased significantly to estimated 80%. Third link is yet another story of young girl raped in US by illegals.
While it isn't something I would want to do, isn't finding someone trained to a do a job and hiring them in place of a more expensive people an objectivist decision?
Yes, you are reading all about it, it is part of the dichotomy between the media advocating for the low skilled illegal workers and against high skilled H1B visas. We are biasing our immigration to protect middle class jobs and to hell with the poor.
I do believe that immigration built this country by selecting for the people who were more likely to take the risk to create a new life. Either we should have a more rational selection process or we should open the door and let competition decide who gets here, but the 'look the other way' system is inducing an unproductive bias.
I believe your claim that 60-80% of women crossing illegally from mexico to the U.S. are raped "along the way" is false. Do you have a citation for this claim?
really? I'm reading about all these tech workers coming over from eastern europe and India replacing US tech workers. There were a couple of articles about them training their replacements. the severence packages would be removed if they did not cooperate. kinda sick. maybe your company isn't one of the crony company's doing it. One of the companies was Disney. At the entrance of Epcot Center, there is this Rand quote that all can see(I'll bet W. Disney would be turning in his grave over the foreign workers' taking over US jobs): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ayn_Rand_quote,_American_Adventure,_Epcot_Center,_Walt_Disney_World.jpg.jpg
Well, when 60-80% of women/girls crossing illegally are raped along the way, it's safe to say a disproportionate numbers of illegals crossing are rapists.
It's also cultural issue. In Latin American countries, it's acceptable to have sex with underage girls that would be correctly classified as rape in the US.
Our culture (the distinctly American culture and values) is superior to that of any country from which any immigrant will hail. It's for this reason that we must adopt more a stringent immigration policy and demand that immigrants assimilate to our culture. This will benefit the immigrants and America.
If we are going to go for open borders then anyone in the world who can make it here should be able to do so. Currently we seem to have a system that is heavily skewing the population in favor of poor people from Latin America.
We spent some time working with an entrepreneur from South Africa to move here -- it was a long and expensive process. We seem to be blocking admission to educated tech people from India and other places.
The immigration issue is very confused. The way to solve real immigration problems is to:
1) Eliminate all welfare
2) Eliminate all laws on drugs.
A free person should be able to travel freely between countries and work wherever they want. Republicans (all of us) need to focus on the underlying problems, not restrict peoples' freedoms which will just cause more problems.
he took a long time to get there. Objectivists of course, reject the free stuff. They also believe free men can walk across borders as long as they do not initiate force. Passports were not recognized for much of US history. If I own myself, I should travel freely, no?
I also do not understand the relevance of Trump's claim about the Mexican government (and, by the way, there is no evidence that this is a systemic problem as Trump implies). My guess is that he emphasizes it to demonize the Mexican government itself to make it seem more like Cuba but I'm unsure. The other issue is the frequency of felons crossing the border illegally. You don't expressly address this but I assume you agree with Trump's claim that a large percentage of illegal crossers already have violent felony convictions (e.g. rapists). I know for a fact this is untrue. What do you think?
Completely agree on the need to institute draconian cuts in welfare state.
The advertising was in coordination with the Mexican/Central American governments/US interests, and it was outrageous.
We're approaching a tipping point where the entire US will go the way of CA. We're importing entire generations of new Democrat voters, which shouldn't surprise anyone, as he told us his objective was to fundamentally transform America.
The most vexing part of this is how the GOP can be so tragically short-sided in their support of amnesty. The DNC has a gun pointed at the GOP's head, and the GOP is offering to load it for them.
in actuality, the American govt went out of its way to advertise in Latin American countries that it was easing its immigration policy for children under 18 and fast tracking their parents' immigration. That is why there is an influx of minor illegals in the US> If we are to preserve America, we need to re-vamp the welfare state and change our drug policies.
You ask, "What is next". It looks like Christians, and Christian symbols. I have no personal problem with either Christians nor Atheists, but the language is very similar - call them haters and bigots, and demand that all evidence of them be removed from the public eye.
To me, the trend itself is disturbing. How long before they get to Objectivists? They are already after the TEA Party and the "Don't Tread On Me" flag.
Khalling, I think if you go through his speech you will find that he did not condemn all Mexicans, etc. Just the lawbreakers, those who came into this country illegally, to take advantage of the "free stuff" which this administration likes to give away to those who circumvent the immigration process.
The left fears a candidate like Trump. He tells it like it is, irregardless of the PC crowds disapproval. This I applaud, its about time someone on our side got loud and in their face with the reality of the left's actions against "We The People". I don't think Trump really gives a hoot about the Univision nor the NBC reactions. I hope he sues their butts for everything he can get and ends up owning them.
I'm unclear as to why it matters if Mexican government is deliberately sending criminals (which we know they are-- several examples have been given in Congressional testimony by ICE), or if they're making the decision of their own accord. The net effect is the same. We're being flooded with illegal immigrants who are having a grossly negative impact on America.
If we are to preserve America, our immigration policy must be changed to one that: 1) radically reduces immigration at a macro level (as was done for the first 50 years of the 20th century), and 2) prioritizes by value the immigrant is bringing with them.
Simply being poor or wanting to come to America should not be ones ticket in. Entry in the US should be a privilege, not a right.
My thoughts exactly! While I usually never agree with 'The Donald' , he does have a right to his opinions and the right to air them. Unfortunately, he doesn't always do it responsibly. I use him for comic relief.
It is, however, unfortunate that many people out there agree with him in condemning an entire group of people.
It's a dual between two parts of the same side. The whole thing is an attention diverting red herring from the in trouble prime candidate to the a non-candidate by their own party supporters. Best ignore it pay no attention.
